My first shake&bake coated bullet. I had to give 2 coat for a good result. Not as easy as I expected.

If that is harbor freight red try shaking longer, I was getting pisspour coverage until I shook for 30-45 seconds.

Keep trying. I get perfect glossy coat with ONE COAT & BAKE with HF red and Smokes's powders.

You should never need 2 coats.

Please put your location in your profile so we know where you are, Helps when we diagnose your questions and problems, especially with BBDT and humidity!!!!!!

Keep trying as 1 coat should work.

What bullet is that?

Your observations will be an interesting read after you shoot them and consider the extra work you had to do to have these type coated/jacketed boolits.
One thing that comes to mind is having seating dies/crimp dies that don't 'gunk up' with lube.

Nice work though...adherence to established methods will get you to a one coat process and yes, include 'where you are'...what's the secret?

They look good, but you may be fighting a humidity problem as I typically have here on the Gulf Coast. I tried using the shake with HF red and had to do the same thing, 2 coats, so I went back to my proven Prismatic solid colors that would single coat. You might take a look at Smoke's Powders that others have had good single coat coverage.
I will say the HF looks great if I double coat, but as I have found, some powders pick up the static charge easily and some not at all. The ones that won't shake will usually spray without a problem. However a few weeks ago when we were getting all the flooding and the humidity was 90% I couldn't get a good coverage even with spray until I moved the operation inside.

Smoke's powder is the only one I use anymore. It gives me the best coverage and looks great too. Only one baking is needed

I'd add more powder and bb's to your tub and try and get coverage in a single pass. They look shootable to me though, I've shot worse with no leading. I even used the piglet method until I finished reading all the up to date methods.

I somewhat get the orange peel effect from HF red too but it doesn't bother me or my boolits. They all shoot great and the coating does what it should.

Here is some 440gr 500's.
