I finally got to the range today to test some loads with my 1944 Yugo Mauser. I was loading the new 185 grain .325 bullet cast from the NOE mold that they just ran for us. I got one heck of a pleasant surprise! One batch that I loaded was that boolit PC'ed and sized to .323. I was using IMR 4895. Load was 27.4 grains. Target was a standard reduced 100 yd match target, Range was 100 yards. Sandbagged off the table. I fired 8 rounds at the taget. 6 went through one ragged hole about 3/4 of an inch. The other two were "fliers" (most likely my fault) that opened the group up to 1 1/2 inch! That is using the open sights with the barleycorn front sight! I'm definitely going to have to work with that load to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but I suspect that it wasn't. I typically get 2 1/2 - 4 inch 100 yd groups with that rifle and cast loads with other powders and other boolits.

Nope, Already patched the target for reuse. I usually test at least 10 loads per target before replacing them. That one already had 8 test loads through it. BTW I had very good accuracy at 31 gr. of IMR 4895 also. Group size was just under 2 inches. I'm going to load up more of both and run them over the chrono just to see how fast they are moving. The later load should be plenty potent for hunting.

170697 This shows the boolits and a completed round. It gives a good idea of how deep the boolits are seated too.
Polly coat is a mix of a high quality yellow and HF red.

Just ordered the 215 grain GC version of this boolit from NOE as I like to shoot at long range. I'm hoping that the heavy slug will track closely with the rear sight settings, at least through 300 yards. We'll soon see.
