It's a dyed maple
burl. I have a thing for 1911 grips I think I own about 50 sets

Niiice! Been a while since I made any 1911 stocks. None of 'em match that set.
Here's the first couple sets I was actually proud of. Also a fan of the 'blind relief' for the mag catch:
