Guys, H&R has made a run of their single shot handi-rifles chambered in 7.62 short! They should be retailing for a bit over $200 and might be an interesting cast boolits launcher. I just acquired a Brazilian '94 that has been converted to 7.62x39 or I'd be on the hunt for one myself. Davidson's has them in stock and their store locator will find one of their affilates in your area that has one in stock.

All reports say that they are indeed 311 bores and not 308. They will not however shoot milsurp ammo. Hard recessed primers aren't getting hit hard enough.

Picked up a couple extra barrels when they had them on sale in September; one was in 7.62X39.

Guess that and the 500S&W are new chamberings for them this year. The boys over on Graybeard seem to be unhappy, talkin of rechamberin and the like already, due to the alledged tendency of the NEF firing pin not having enough force/length to consistantly ignite the cheapo Ruskie mil-spec stuff. May be, but I fired off 4 boxes of it(2 Barnaul and 2 Wolf), that's 80 rounds, with just one Wolf dud. No matter to me either way; I plan to shoot cast in it and a Savage bolt-gun with a 7.62X39 barrel. Just haven't got around to it yet.

By the way, my grooves miked at .310".

Jethrow .... How about measuring the rate of twist for me. That might might determine whether I get a rifle to go with the loading dies & 200 unfired cases I have on hand. Thanks.... oksmle

Twist rate is 1 in 9.45 according to the posts at Graybeards.

I think that the majority of those that are wanting to rechamber were looking at the 310 barrel as a base for others like the 303 Brit or the 7.62x54R that they've been craving. There's a lot of tinkerers over there.. A few were disappointed that they had bad luck with milsurp also.

Glad to see your post oksmle! Haywood speaks true on the twist--1:9.75".

The .310" rifling is a lot more user friendly than the .432" they put on the .44 Mag, and they have been making the latter forever! No matter,at this point I'm well stocked with oversized moulds----and have to say that the 44M is a real tackdriver as long as you make the boolits reeeel biiieeeg!----jethrow

Perfect for home defense

Interesting claim. Their stock makes a single shot rifle perfect for home defense. :groner:

certainly makes it look "tactical" tho doesn't it. [smilie=s:

Ordered one that came in this week. Good fit finish and wood is fair to ok. Barrel slugs out 0.310, I will need new rings as an old 2.5 weaver will not fit in the low rings I have. It's hunting season in MT so a range report will follow in Dec. Gianni.

If you don't mind... Whom did you order it from and what was the price?

Ax-Men south ordered it in from Davidson's. Retail price plus delivery to Montana was $249. I didn't pay that but I did the owners a great favor a few years ago that qualify's me for a lifetime discount in their eyes and I try not to milk it too much. Gianni.

I shot the Handi-rifle today. Lee 311-113 soup can ww with fwfl lube and gator check over 14 gr WC820 showed a great 50 yard group. 1" off hand which is better than I can normally shoot. LY 311410 unknown alloy from Jon at western bullets over 9.2 gr Herco was not as accurate. Too many variables to compare the two. I have the LY mold now and will probably plaw with it some at a slower speed being plain based. Wolf ammo would not fire in this gun but did in the sks. Great bear silver fired 2 out of 3 with the first hammer drop the 2nd shot took 3 tries to fire. I would not hunt wiht factory ammo in this gun anyway. Gianni.
