I bought a bag of PRVI Partisan 22 jet brass and intend to try to blow it out to 256 WM. Has anyone tried this ?
I am building a martini rifle in 256 WM and thought it may be easier to fire form my brass then to form it in sepparate steps.
I got the new brass cheap !

It certainly can be done, I've done it before too. You will want to anneal the brass first, neck up from .22 to 24/6mm, then you can FL size in the .256WM die. The brass will look odd until you fire it. When you anneal make sure you anneal all the way down the shoulder and not just the neck.

I prefer just to neck down .357 Mag brass, but I see where you are coming from.

That sounds right. You should make sure the annealing is the same all around, and avoid the temptation to fireform without expanding the neck.

Thanks, I will try annealing and necking up the brass then load with a small charge of fast powder and tissue paper wad and compacted cream of wheat, it has worked for me on other brass.

I know a lot of people recommend using Cream of Wheat to blow out cases; but I have always had better luck by loading a moderate charge and using a projectile, either lead or jacketed. It takes pressure to move brass.

I have had some similar experience. I had a Martini in 22 Ackley Jet. My first cases I fire formed,
after annealing, with 7gr Bullseye and corn meal muffin mix, worked perfect. Also blew out Jets
to 256, same method. Then because of cost and availability of jet brass, I went to 357s. More
time consuming but cases have good life span. One tip I can pass on, do not use any nickel plate
brass to form 256, from 357, it is waste of time and material. To many ruined in the process and
short case life. Been there, done that!

Indeed it does. Cream of wheat plus a few drops of melted candlewax may be better.

Personally I wouldn't even give using 22Rem Jet cases a thought. Just get some 360DW brass (Starline) and anneal then form which is all I do. 22 Jet is based off of 357Mag brass, and all the 357Mag brass I've used forms under spec length. But using 360DW brass is not only cheap, they come out longer which needs to be trimmed down to spec length.

Here's a cut and paste from a previous post I did....

I got in some 360DW brass today, so I figure I would show the steps I take to do those. First I anneal them rather gently, and I mean just that.....GENTLY. Then I lube them up and run them through the 256Win Mag die, I have a gauge to hold the proper gauge dimension for those, then it's trimming to the PROPER trim length of 1.281.

The last 2 on the right.....that's using 357 mag brass and those are at 1.250. So take a close look at the 360DW converted and with the naked eye there's .030 difference in length.

Using 357Mag brass is what I call a "DO-4" ( Do For Now) and if you want the proper length you have to use 360DW brass and trim to the proper length.
