I have this barrel for my Contender, unfortunately no brass or dies yet. I have heard good things about the caliber. I will follow for updates.........

I'm a little confused.
The title says "356" and your post says "256."
The data supports the "256" if I read it right.
Are you asking a question, just making a comment, or what?

PS; I own a few Hawkeye Rugers in 256 & a T/C bbl in 256 Win.

Yes the 256 Win Mag.
Looking in several Lyman reloading book, it looks like 5gr of Unique is a place to start.
Note: Do not type a new thread after working 17 hrs straight. UGH!

I use the Hornady 60 grn JSP's in my Hawkeye. I haven't got a 25 cal bullet mold for this gun.

Never heard of the 356 Nag, but my ex-wife was a 24x7 nag

Do not know if it is still out there spinning on the interweb, but Rocky Raab did a write up on 256 Mag in the TC that may give you some information.

Here is a picture of my Hawkeye with a fire ring. It's hard to try & capture such things, but my thanks to a friend, Daryl Drake (photo credit,) for capturing this.

That's one cool photo - I too have a 256 barrel for my contender but never really had good luck in trying to get it to shoot cast boolits. Speer used to sell 60 grain SP that my barrel loved.

I've had a 256WM in a TC for about 30 years, Lyman 257420 is the only 25 cal. mold I have.
Never needed another as accurate 1680 and this boolit does real well.

I had one and came across 250+ orig. cases for a good price. Mostly, made them from .357's, and though short, they worked well. If you form from .357 or .357 DW cases, be sure to anneal the case necks after forming and you'll have MUCH longer case life. MUCH longer. Mine was a 10" oct. bbl. and it was a real pleasure to shoot. It'd kill anything in my area, but I never tried it on deer. No doubt in my mind it would have worked with the right bullets. I shot j-bullets at that time, and never tried cast, but for those, IMR-4227 did a great job. Muzzle blast and that ring of fire seemed much less than with ball powders in the 10" barrel. It's a great caliber for smaller stuff, up to coyote size, and can be used past that with the right bullets. The 75 gr. FP Speer was my favorite. Good expansion combined with good penetration. I wouldn't have had a problem taking a deer with it, I'm sure, though I never did it. Very accurate, too! I wish I'd tried cast in it, and sorry I can't provide any data for you, but I can assure you you'll like it. Very mild mannered but still very hard hitting. Not much recoil, so it's very pleasant no matter how many rounds you shoot. That kind'a makes it ideal from many perspectives. It really doesn't take as much bullet or velocity to take most anything out there as most of us usually use. Skimps on powder and lead. What's not to like???

I've had good luck with the Lyman 257463 a nice Loverin design. Also had great luck forming cases using the full length sizing die used thin coat of Lee case lube and took my time, only lost about 2%. Tim
