I was cleaning out some old stuff that I'm never going to use and ran across a small binder that I had stored a long article on building a 1911 pistol from scratch. It was published in Shooting Times 1996-1997(11 installments) and was written by Layne Simpson. Back then I thought I might do just that, build a 1911. Obviously, I didn't do it and forgot all about the article.

I know that anything published in gun media is immediately suspect here and most know more than can ever be found in the gun media, but I thought that before I consign this to the recycle bin, I would offer it to anyone that wanted it.

I didn't post in S&S because I will send it to the first one that responds with "I want it", no charge. If a Mod feels that this should have gone in another forum, feel free to move it.

You got it! PM your address and I will get it out today or tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't see the second response while I was typing the above. Frank505 was first to respond (by one minute).

Sounds like it needs to be scanned and posted as images in a sticky somewhere... I mean, you just CANNOT have TOO MANY guides on building a 1911, can you?

If I knew how to do that, I would be glad to. It is about 50 pages long and some of the copies are somewhat dark, mainly photos. Also, I'm not too sure of the copyright status.

I could help with scanning and making a dropbox file, if that would help. And ship it to whomever y'all choose when I am done. Take me less than an hour to do.

Tell you what! I will make another hard copy and mail it to you same as original offer. I didn't realize that this would create a demand. PM your address.

Not sure what you mean by "shipping it". I would like to back out of this process once I have mailed to original first response and to TXSlade.

A hard copy and stickey either be great. Whatever works for us all. I would be happy to copy it and send it to the next person. Whatever works

frank505: Since you responded first, I have a hard copy ready to send to you if you furnish an address. Once I send that and TXSlade gets the copy I sent him, I have fulfilled my commitment. I don't have the computer smarts to do all this other stuff.

If someone copies this, I would like a copy, too.
Might be good on a cd or dvd.

A dropbox link to the scanned article would be fantastic. Thanks.

I purchased a book to completely restore my Winchester 94 years ago. I run across it every now and then when I'm cleaning up. Another unfinished project.
