In another thread I asked about the probable value of this revolver. Today I picked it up. I had started the paperwork and negotiations last week and finalized the deal today.
Here she is.

There were no rings with it and I changed the grips after I got it home to protect the originals. I haven't shot it yet but that will happen soon. If it shoots as well as it looks and feels, I am sure I got my money's worth.

How does the balance feel with that long barrel? Beautiful gun.

For whatever reason, the balance with that long barrel suits me. I had a long barreled S&W 27 years ago and loved it. It went for hospital bills for my wife along with most of my other handguns. Hopefully this one won't do that.

tazman years ago I used to shoot my friends 6" model 29 that was a beast. My fav. was a 4" model 19.

I can understand the affordable heath care problem. I was just released last week from having another stent installed.

We have a winner!
I took it to the range today and boy does it shoot. I just ran 38 special loads through it since that is what I will be shooting the most, but after seeing these targets, I am going to have to see how it handles magnum loads. I may have to take it hunting.

The first target was fired with wadcutters, Lyman 358495 sized to .358 over 3.2 of Titegroup rested at 20 yards. There are 12 shots on that target.
The second target was fired with NOE-360-150 SWC sized to .358 over 5.0 of CFE pistol, offhand at 10 yards. There are 18 shots on the target.
The third target was fired with Lyman 358432 sized to .358 over 3.5 of Bullseye, offhand at 10 yards. There are 12 shots on that target.
All boolits were cast from range scrap and tumble lubed with White Label X-lox.
All brass was mixed headstamp.
Sorry guys, no chrono results. I was indoors.
I ran 3 other types of cast boolit ammo through it, but the groups were all the same size. Just slightly different impact points.
Over 200 rounds through the gun and no leading. I love it.
Now I need to go downstairs and clean this beauty.

tazman that is most excellent! Hoping my new PT92C shoots as well.

Back when I was shooting my model 19 I was loading Speer 158gr. swc over a mid load of Bullseye. It was very accurate and very pleasant to shoot. Wish now I'd have kept that gun.

I have that same exact revolver. Bought her used back around 2004 give or take. She's extremely accurate with 357's (38-150-SWC over 2400). An excellent handgun for sure.

I had one for a while and foolishly sold it. It was a 686 no dash and was phenomenal. Just a bit heavy.

Nice!

I'm glad you picked it up...

Remember, if you get the hankering to put a scope on it, the link to the info on how to make the new Millet rings work for ya, is in your other thread...

Good on you Taz!

I had a 586 6" for a while and it was factory set for PPC shooting (high patridge front sight) towards the end of my police service. It was an excellent revolver and I wish that I still had it. Your 686 looks to be a fine descendant from those earlier blued steel L Frames.

Speaking of cleaning firearms, I was just at the range on Friday and today's efforts include cleaning a Model 10, Model 14 and a Model 19. I've got to mow the lawn at some point today too, but it can wait.
