Just brought home a Taurus PT92C that I found on Gun Broker for a very nice price and as best I can determine it was built Jan 1997. The pistol is very clean and doesn't look like it was shot very much. Only problem which isn't really one is that it came with a 15 round magazine instead of the original 12 round. This 15 round extends about 1/2" beyond the butt.

Anyone have an idea where I might find a 12 round mag for this pistol? I have located a 10 round for the PT92C on Pro Mag site but have been lead to believe the Pro Mag are not the best bet.

Midway has 10 round Promag, but they're a crapshoot: the only Promags I've tried that actually worked are drums for the Saiga-12. Maybe watch for one on some of the on-line auction sites.

No idea about a 12 round mag. With the restrictions in some states the manufacturers go straight to the 10 round mags.
The promags I got from Midway work fine for me.

The 10 round I seen on promags site stated only available online.

10 round would be fine as long as it fits and doesn't extend out of the butt.

Numrich has used, factory 12 round magazines, but they are pricey.

look on the Taurus web site.
I bought the SIL a mecgar from crud now I don't remember I wish I did because I bought a spare for my tokarov there too.
anyway it was for his Taurus 40 short and it works perfectly.

They list them for the PT92 but not the 92C. Just spent about 45min on a live chat with Taurus support, sent them all the info on the pistol along with a few pictures they requested so I'll see what happens.

Well as of this morning I still haven't had a reply from Taurus so I'm not sure if I should be optimistic or not. Hope to be able to get out and test fire this weekend.

Taurus doesn't have the best customer service you might need to try them again.
the guy that helped you is probably well probably not at work today.

Well if you intend to carry the pistol, one of the mags from Numrich wouldn't be too out of line as long as it works, then carry a couple fifteen round spares for reloads.

I don't remember actually handling one of the Taurus Compacts, but Beretta also made a compact in the early '90's, and those magazines should also fit.

I'm thinking the person I was having the live chat with and the same one I sent the email to may be the only CSR they have.

Now I understand that this model was only made for 4-5 years and has been discontinued for 15 years or so that finding a replacement magazine or parts may be difficult. But at least some kind of response from them would be nice.

Mk42, This will not be a carry weapon, more a HD and range gun. The 15 round mags fit and work but extend 1/2" below the butt. Even a 10 round would work if I could find one the correct length.

The Compact Beretta will fit but it will not latch because the latch holes are smaller on the Beretta. Was also advised by our gun shop owner that to modify a Beretta mag may not be a wise idea because of liability issues.

If it is only a Home defense and range gun, I'd modify a Beretta magazine in a minute and call it good for the range. For the HD I'd stick with the 15 unless it didn't function.

With the litigation state of affairs today you can call me "chicken". Last thing I need is some type of accident or malfunction to happen and then finding myself in court. Not to say I haven't considered it.

How would the magazine be a liability? The Taurus 92 is built on older Beretta machinery. I've modified several M9 mags for my FILs Taurus 92, just had to open the notch on the magazine. Only the mag catch, grip screw placement and safety (earlier design) is different from a current 92FS.

I can't answer that question as to how but I'm sure there is a way in todays world.

I had read about the modification somewhere which is why I asked the gunsmith at the shop. He stated he wouldn't do it and advised against it.

Anyways, I'm in no hurry so I'll watch for both and if I can find a Beretta on the cheap I might try it.

That "gunsmith" is an idiot, as are most that work in a gunshop.

That may well be but who am I to judge?

IMO so are lawyers but they still file lawsuits which then have to be defended.

Thanks scattershot! They didn't have any but I did hear back from them with a lead for a pair of 12 rounders.

Speaking of the Beretta latch, the M9 and SIG 226 are pretty much the same mag. Lock up is different again. In an emergency you can hold the base of the other mag up in other gun with your support hand. Did the drill in Iraq with both a M9 and SIG with zero feeding issues, just FYI.

Yeup, been there too along with many others. MecGar doesn't even list this gun on their site. Thanks for the thought!

Again thanks scattershot. That lead that Greg Cote panned out. There were 2 on Gun Trader that didn't come up when I did a search and was able to win the bid.

Mec Gar MIGHT make that mag. I've never really run across a 12 rounder.

UPDATE, My 2 new original Taurus 12 round mags arrived today. Fit is perfect with the only flaw being that the butt plate on them is SS and not blued. I can live with that as the pistol feels much better w/o the mag sticking 1/2" below the butt.

Would really like to thank everyone for their suggestions in finding these!

If you don't like the look of the SS bottom plate, magic marker is your friend.

I just figure it will help keep it separate from all the other PT92C's out there.;)
