I am gonig to build 2 suppressors after I receive the Stamps from the ATF.

One of the guns I want to install it on is my Encore with a 28" barrel in 7mm Rem Mag. Due to the barrel length, which I would like to keep, I have been thinking of making the suppressor go part way over the barrel. The barrel is approx. .8" in diameter so my thought is to turn down the muzzle end of the barrel for about 3" then thread it for the suppressor on the end of the the reduced barrel shank closest to the receiver. The portion of the barrel towards the muzzle and in front of the threads would be turned down to allow the suppressor to screw onto the threads.
This will give me the most internal volume when compared to an end cap adapter that screws on to the threads at the muzzle.
I know little about suppressors so would like some input on this idea.

Reflex suppressors have been done a few different ways -
Here is a few from a Finnish design from stamped metal welded together.

I hope you filed a form 1 which is necessary before you start production. Without the form 1 you cannot manufacture a suppressor.

Gee, what was his first sentence?

I think he's like a lot of us just waiting for the bureaucracy.

Marijuana is against Federal Law but Obama looks the other way concerning it, wonder if we could do the same when making supressors 8)

On the T8 scout devise why the barrel chamber?

the isolated chamber, to be clear on my question.

Your talking about the tubular chamber that forms the inside wall of the expansion chamber that the barrel goes into?
- it's to keep the gases isolated from the barrel so that the threads don't become so fouled that you can't get the suppressor off the gun or vent any gas to the rear.

Keep us posted as to how it works. I am just starting to look at designs to build one myself.

thanks Art, I thought that might be the reason.

Lets face it the two purposes of the Reflex design are
1) to shorten the firearm with the suppressor mounted compared to other designes
2) have a large expansion chamber to lower the pressure the baffles have to handle, so you can use "wimpy" baffle construction.

Artful, alot of good info there. I noticed the Encore tube was much longer than the 8" I put on the Form 1. Wonder how ATF would handle it if I wanted to make mine longer. Or since I have 2 forms submitted make them so they will screw together?
I can see the need for the support from the muzzle end of the barrel since the design is so long. I could turn down the od of my brake and do the same thing. Does having the brake inside the can take some of the pressure off the baffles?
I'm assuming the center adapter has some weep holes in it?

The Rhineland Arms 45 ACP Enfield barrel? Yep that has holes in the barrel - basically they are trying to emulate the Delisle Carbine. If you and Jerry set a time/place I'll bring my 45 Ti-Rant on a Enfield w/ SIA conversion for you to try.

I ordered enough parts today to assembly 2 eight inch solvent traps, except for the freeze plugs. My local NAPA has them in stock. Ordered 2 end caps with different threads also. This will allow me to determine what a couple of my barrels are threaded to as the measure different than any I have seen listed.
Received 2 new barrels today that I bought, one for my Savage 110, stock take off in 30-06 and a Green Mountain in 6.5X55 for one of my 1891 Argentine Mausers. I have my gunsmith buddy thread these before I install them.
Is it October yet??

In the weird world of the ATF, you'd best ask them directly. I've heard from a friend of a friend that just building it longer is bad juju. Slight shortening due to repairs is OK.

I believe all you need to do is send in an amendment stating the longer length and you're golden.

The problem for me having to wait 5 months for the stamps is it gives me too much time to think! LOL.
