Any idea what the first tool was made for?

I think it was originally made as a roller crimper.

As I said, haven't figure-out about the first tool (first 3 photos) which it was stored together with that roller crimper...

I miss-read. Never seen anything like the first tool.

These folk would know if anyone would:

I think you are right, it does look like a tool for inserting primers. A nail to knock out primers along a dowel to seat wads and you'd be set.

Does a 16 gauge shell fit into the hole? Kind of hard to guess with nothing to give scale to the tool.

A while back there was an ad on flea-bay for an "antique reloading tool". It was a lever operated pecan cracker. Dunno what you have there. GW

It is a priming tool as said. But it is for Berdan primers, the one lever forces the punch into the primer and removes it.

Note many of the early brass shotgun shells were Berdan primed.

The roll crimper was used just for the paper shells.

I think the .40-70 Sharps Straight and other similar rounds would fit it as well as .30-40 Krag.

You know, it looks to me like that Berdan priming tool was made to have interchangeable inserts for different cases. The small screws probably won't come out without breaking; but if they did, extra inserts would be easy to make.
