Congrats! I like it, what case is that? What boolit weight do you have in mind? I'm thinking something around 275 or maybe even 300 grns would be a pretty awesome thumper.

Looks like it would be a real thumper with the right boolits.

It's a wild cat cartridge developed by Jess of JES Reboring 405 JES will shoot a 300 gr cast boolit close to 2000 fps! I'm looking for a 285 gr. GC Boolit mold made by LBT I can by the Boolits already cast, but I'd like the mold! I'm going to by a hundred to see how they work !

So what basic case is 405 JES made from?
is that the .41-444?

405 Winchester is it's own case
https://www.loaddata.com/images/database/.405%20Winchester9.gif

that was parent of 35 Winchester
https://www.loaddata.com/images/database/.35%20Winchester3.gif

which along with the 30-40 Krag
https://www.loaddata.com/images/database/ACFCD4.gif

were the big game cartridges of the 1895 Winchester.

Yes it is, cut to 2.025 after that resize. Has the looks of a 40-65 Win. loving it can't wait to get some heavier Boolits for it ordered some 265 gr Boolits GC still looking for the right mold!

I would also like to know the base case.

Curious.
Is the 405s energy near or close to a 444s?

405. Win is only 200 fps faster with 300 gr boolit! You do the math! No critter on earth can stand it! I'm looking at a 285 gr. GC around 2000 fps! Should be good! It's shootin 215 gr 41 mag Boolits real good so far, all I have!

Looks like a 444 Marlin trimmed to 2.05.

Greetings
The 405 JES is what the 444 is as the 41 mag is like the "44 Mag". They do best with those heavier cast and will put the crush on any critter. That bigger FN will be a thunder hammer on what ever it punches into.

I use a 330 grain boolit in a 405 WCF but I only push it to 1500 or 1600 fps. So far it has worked on everything I have asked it to hammer. 2000 -2200 fps may be original ballistics for these cartridges but not necessary.

Yeah I think what I shoot with it will not get over it! My shots are mostly 50 yards in the woods! Looking to use on bear if I see one!

Good morning
That load should do all you ever need on a bear at 50 yards and less.
When ya think about the capabilities of these cast loads just do a little research into an old BP cartridge caliber that is near in diameter and velocity. The 40-65 was capable of driving a near caliber 41 cast at about 1350 fps give or take and was a well noted bear and elk load. 120 years ago they used a 30-1 round nose that was devastating. Now we have huge FN cast that is already expanded on impact and will drive clean through if cast hard.
Please do keep us posted. This 405 JES is one of the better caliber 41's that has popped up in many years. No better than a 444.. but if you have a pile of caliber 41 molds it sure will do near everything.
