Has anyone tried the above bullets in a Marlin microgroove 45/70? I'm thinking of trying it out for moderate plinking levels, casting with plain lead. I'm thinking that the Minie shape will help fill the rifling a bit better than I'm getting with a slightly oversize bore.

A few years ago I tried 45-70 Lee bullets in a Marlin 95 45-70. They were as cast at about 457-458. Some Lee molds vary and new ones may cast a little larger, but they gave abysmal accuracy. Most that use MG like to have oversize harder alloy bullets. Whether a 454 would work very well is doubtful.

I would not waste my time. A Minnie bullet was intended to allow loading a fouled out muzzle loader and adapt to imperfect bore dimensions. It was not noted for delivering serious accuracy, even from a clean bore. Bite the bullet, determine your bore dimensions and buy a real mould to cast real bullets.
