Right now I'm having a lot of success with powder coating 9mm, 357Mag, and 45 ACP boolits for pistols. I've been using all Lee molds because they are working for me (so far). Picked up the Lee 358-125RF for my next purchase; .357Mag lever action carbine! So far, I'm pretty set on a Henry Big Boy Steel Carbine .357Mag with 16.5" barrel. For all you Marlin, Rossi, Henry, and other brands who own a levergun in 357Mag, what has been your experiences with powder coated boolits? For mid loads will I still need a gas check?

Hopefully the Lee mold I bought is fine for my intended purpose for plinking/target shooting & saving lead too.

Would love to hear others experiences. Tried searching Google and couldn't find much info on this subject either.

I use that same mold for my 20" rossi because of the twist rate.

Powder coated, and loaded with 5.6 gr of bullseye. Tested out some loaded with 6 gr of bullseye. Tested out a lot of loads actually, no lead deposits or any of that.

I'm no mathematical genius, so if you can figure out what what the velocity is, I can confirm that I haven't had any issues shooting that load, feeding cleaning or otherwise.

Thanks TrashcanDan. After some reading, it seem the consensus is if I don't go above 1,700 fps and use hard cast boolits there should be no problems with leading. Looking to shoot on the cheap without added cost of a gas check. Just ordered some Super Hard Alloy from Roto Metals to harden some of my soft pistol lead up to BHN 15.

I shoot several weights & designs of 358's out of my carbines, PC'd, with absolutely no problems. 9-14 hardness. Normally no Cu GC's either. For better accuracy, use GC's.....flat bottoms!!

Go for it. And don't overthink it.
