Some of you have read my thread about knocking over my 1894P and destroying the rear sight. Thanks to "HistoricFirearms" I have a used take-off, and installed it on my Marlin.

Having not yet shot this thing, I decided to wander off out back and light off a few. Took these two with me...

The 1894P, and my stainless 5.5" Super Blackhawk, both .44 Mags. I had a variety of cast ammo, but the only thing interesting was the Marlin. I set it up at 25 yards and squeezed off 3 rounds, the first I had ever shot from this carbine. I got up and walked to the target, just to see how far off the sights were, and if I even hit anything. Here it is -

The closer I got to the target, the more incredible it was. I got to giggling and couldn't stop. Open sights, and I am on the back-side of 50 years. I sounded like a 5th-grade girl.

So, I tried a 5-shot group.

Then I adjusted the sights, 2 clicks up the ramp.
Shot the third group, 3 shots.

I'm looking forward to some load development, and backing up to my home range max of 75yds. I'm also looking forward to buying an orange soda-pop for whomever it was that suggested that 10gr HS-6 load under the 240gr boolit.

I believe I'm going to like this little carbine....

That's a sweet little Marlin. I'm still regretting not buying the one I looked at when Marlin was making them. Glad I could help get you start shooting it.

I've had several of the 1894P's, today only one in the safe. I love em - they are a fun, fun trapper.

Congrats on getting her put back together!
