Good evening, picking up a new 1895G 45-70 tmrw and am looking at both of these molds for future casting. I know a lot of folks cast with the LEE 405 but it seem to have a following of being under sized. So I'm looking at two NOE molds the 460-378 and the NOE 460-425 molds. Both for hunting at 1300 to 1400 FPS is what I'm planning on. The Smaller one for general shooting. Lead base of 50/50

Thank you

NOE makes excellent molds !
I own, well, quite a few of them and they have always cast great.
Just make sure you follow the directions that come with the mold to a 'T' and you'll be making awesome boolits in no time !

Personally I prefer the NOE/RD 460-350. No experience with the moulds you mention but the 460-425 is best described and a heavy 460-350. Suspect it's a great thumper for big stuff.

Quite honestly I think the 350 boolit delivers more than enough thump on both ends unless you're going after something bigger than deer or hogs, IMHO.
And yes, NOE moulds rock. :-)

Txgunnut, have you had any problems with these rounds feeding? And what fps are you running? I'm going to try and stay between 1300 to 1500

No feeding issues. I run a fair bit faster than that with this lighter (for the cartridge) boolit. I don't judge distance well so I prefer to flatten the 45-70's rainbow trajectory a bit with faster, lighter boolits. IIRC velocity is around 1800, if interested I'll pm specifics. It's a step above Trapdoor pressures so I'd rather not post them.

I have several NOE 45 molds from 300-500, including the 378gr. It works great in my 450 Marlin & .458. Havn't used it in the Lott or Watts. I also prefer bullets in the 325-375 m/l in the .450 & 45-70. Can't go wrong with it.
