This is why I want that there's back up sights in my rifle. I use my back ups, which are ghost ring and post, also for special purposes like today for hunting in heavy brush, no real possibility to use scope. Warne in the pic got broken when I was putting the scope back on after that. Clamp screw is surprisingly weak and I haven't used any tools ever to tighten these, just my fingers. Second time they fail, first time was when I bought these, two sets was out of alignment and factory replaced them. Is Leupold QRW any better?

Lucky thing today was that I managed to take out that end part of the screw and I have two sets of these rings, so I replaced the screw and scope should stay pretty close where it was. No time to check these things on the range.

I have Warne bases and rings on my Marlin 1895SS. The backups are the factory sights, the rear sight having the folding leaf. I always imagined the scope would fail, not the rings. The only time I felt a need to use the iron sights was while huntint in a heavy rain, which could not be kept off the scope.

How do you have your ghost ring attached? Are the on while the scope is mounted?

Thanks for the picture you did post.

Sean, I have XS scout mount setup with Burris 2x pistol scope on top, so ghost ring attaches to the rear of the receiver. Ring it self is Williams WGRS with peep device removed leaving true ghost ring for close up work. Nothing wrong with factory sights as a back up and it can be replaced with stronger and better one if you wish. I never liked original factory sights, no good sight picture and one dude here dismantled it accidentally just by drawing the rifle out of the scabbard, pingggg.... XS has tall Weaver back up, low Weaver back up and Warne premier back up sights, but I don't know if it's possible to put them in to your system. Low Weaver back up looks interesting if you have Weaver style mounts; it takes portion of the rear mount and it puts the ring very low and back:

Alright, since I posted this in the first place, it's now time to say thanks to Warne and Mr. Ron Cook at their customer service; Ron sent me the new screw + few extra screws, so everything is back on duty and if I manage to screw up more screws they'll be covered also. No charge, so I'm pretty pleased. What comes to this failure... I think I need to hold myself and not use so much torque with these and I noticed also, that clamp lever and the nut needs some lubrication time to time, because otherwise it could be that turning the lever turns the tightened screw stud and not the nut only as it should... Good company with fast and friendly problem handling.
