Is Blue Dot a smokey powder? I loaded some in my .256 with LLA and Teflon taped 70 grain boolits. Those were very smokey loads! If I didn't have a spotter I would never know where the bullets hit. It was like shooting my muzzle loader, only the gun used is a 14" Contender! Any way, I'm going to have to try some thing else with this gun. It works pretty good with Sierra 70 grain bullets

In high pressure loads, Blue Dot is very clean.

Have you used LLA before? IME it's the smokiest lube a guy can use. 9mm with Lee TL boolit and W231 smokes like holy black as well.

I'd be blaming the lube first.
if there is any humidity alox will smoke pretty good/bad whichever pick one..
if there is any blow-bye in the throat it's worse.

Thanks for the replies. These did not seem to be hi pressure, but they WERE top loads in my lyman manual. I am thinking of just using teflon tape as a lube. I do not have any gas checks nor a .257 sized die. I have used teflon tape on several calibers with great success.
