Rumor has it that both Winchester and Remington have stopped producing brass for reloading.

I've given up on finding 30-40 brass a long time ago. You might be stuck going the .303 route. They work just fine, a bit short, but my Ruger #3 doesn't notice.

If you ever get tired of that #3 let me know.. I've been wanting one for a long time but haven't found one locally.
Also could use some more brass and might have to try some 303 brass.

I spoke with Graf's just now and suggested they approach Privi Partizan about a run of 30/40 Krag brass. After all , it may wake up Remington and Winchester about the situation they are creating. I believe they would like to force us into buying loaded ammo , make more money. My thought is that Graf's may be able to get PPU to make the stuff , and hopefully market saturation point is equal or lesser than many mil-surp metrics on their rosters....just say'n

Looks like real 30-40 Krag brass may be somewhere between 'critically endangered' and 'extinct'. In the past, when no one else had any, I found some at Huntington's (RCBS) but I just checked and the only 30-40 brass they currently list is "from .303 Brit".

Gun shows! I recently found a bag of 50 new Win 30-40 brass and 15 once fired Win for $40. It's out there. Buy all you can find.

Form from Hornady .405 Win brass, I make 303 British from them. It's a bit of work & not cheap, but i have fun.

I think Remington and Winchester are committing slow motion suicide in the ammo market by not serving the market.
I am sure PPU will be glad to take the entire market away from them.

Doesn't Remington just do a seasonal run of 30-40 from time to time? I couldn't find any for quite a while, but then it was available on Midway a few years ago and I bought several hundred. I'm sure once the demand gets high enough, either Remington or Winchester will fire out another batch. If not, somebody else will pick up the slack. There are way too many shootable 30-40's out there to completely abandon the market.

The real losers are going to end up being all of the short magnums from the late '90's-early 2000's. Just not enough guns chambered in them to justify producing ammo or cases for them in a decade or so.

The answer, it would seem, is to buy factory Krag to get new correct brass. High priced? Yep but it is out there.

As for the short magnum guns their answer is buy as much as they need for the next forty years. A few boxes every paycheck and a guy could have a good stock pile to pick from as long as he reloaded from one box at a time until the brass wore out.

Hmmmm. I should start stocking up on Krag ammo again.
