I am looking for load recomendations for the Lyman 429421 bullet in the 44 spl. case. I would like a load that pushes the 245gr. boolit about 900 fps but all the data I can find only gets to 800fps tops in this round. I suppose the pressures would be too high for a 44 spl. gun is why, but I will be shooting these out of a 44 magnum. Any pet loads out there?

The old Lyman 45th Edition book listed 8.0 of Unique with a velocity of 1000 FPS. I loaded some of those for my Super Blackhawk in the past, but thought them much too hot for my Charter Bulldog (though I'll admit to having fired some in it with no apparent harm.) The 46th Edition came all the way down to 6.9 grains as a maximum with a pressure of 13,300 psi at 767 FPS, and my Lyman Cast Bullets Handbook lists 7.0 grains of Unique as a maximum with an 880 FPS MV. (Published after the Bulldog was on the market.)

Personally I like 8.0 grains of Unique under 240-250 grain boolits in .44 Magnum cases. No problems with dirtying up the front of the chambers and getting hard loading and extraction with Magnum cases later, as you get when shooting Specials. Never chronographed them, figured it was probably around a 950 FPS load as a SWAG.

I shot a lot of uniique loads of 8.5 gns in a bulldog in the old days until charter arms quit sending me replacement grips when the factory ones split ... it shot very well but the lawyers got to it and I do not recommend it with the new lots of powder . very accurate though.......dean .

you are on your own if you try it ///
