Re: CCI Blazer Ammunition 357 Magnum 158 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point
CCI #: 3542 UPC #: 076683035424
Fired from any 357 magnum revolver having 2-3 inch barrel

While this ammunition is identified as 357 Magnum, its advertised ballistics show it to be between 38 Special +P and bottom end of 357 Magnum - that is, the universe of very expensive specialty snub nose revolver ammunition.

When fired at 7-10 yards into [reasonably] standardized test media - for example, jugs of water fronted by denim - does this 158-grain JHP bullet expand reliably?

There's a couple guys on youtube that test store bought ammo in various handguns. The 158 grain HP's don't expand all that well...

I have a partial box of that. Aluminum cased right ? Website says 950 fps, barrel length not given. It's surprisingly accurate. It's also loaded with a Speer bullet per their website.

I would not bet on an average 158 gr. JHP to expand very well at 900 fps. from my experience. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it. :)

BINGO!

I have yet to see a hollow point...even the Hornady's that claim this low fps window of expansion...that would reliably expand at less than about 1200fps.

I gt some to try in the 77/357 rifle. havent got a chance to shoot it yet tho. I knew the aluminum cased stuff would be loaded to low end velocities but i didnt think it would be 38 special velocities.

In a fit of boredom I went on YouTube and found 2 vids of someone shooting this ammo into water. From a 2" snub revolver it actually expanded a bit, but not great. This test was into straight water, which is your best bet for expansion.

The second test was through denim into water, but from a 4" revolver, and they actually expanded decently. I don't imagine the denim would have helped out the 2" snub results at all. I had hoped to find some ballistic gel tests, but couldn't locate any.
