I am planning on building a rifle length upper in this and was wanting to know who here is using one and the oppions of it and any difficulties sizing up the 556 brass?

Just started doing my research on this exact round. I would like some information, the same as allen16323.

Have an elderly friend that love's it. Built on a Remington XP action. Weighs 5lb . Shoots 85 gr. Sierra HP's for deer.

Well not a 6/223 but a 7 TCU. There is no problem going from 223 to 7mm in one step as long as the brass is not work hardened. You might also want to anneal the brass after expansion.

Had a 6x45 barrel put on a Savage Axis . Had a 1 in 9 twist barrel , because I wanted to shoot the heavier 6 mm bullets. Was surprise to fine it would shoot the 60 gr bullet just as accurate as the 90 gr. Getting 2900 fps out of the 24 inch barrel using H322. 2650 fps with a 85 gr bullet. These being starting loads from the Lee Loaders manual.
Have had no problems making brass from Military or commercial Brass.
Have not had a chance to try cast bullets, but plan to do so.

Funny you would ask about it. I have a 6 x 45 barrel for my AR somewhere in the shop. Yesterday I shortened a 6 x.47 dies so I could use it for 6 x 45. Opening up the neck was easy.

I have one in a XP-100; very simple to form brass.

I have owned a 6X47 Rem 40XBR since the early 1980s. It is just the .222 Rem Mag case expanded to 6mm. I use 6X47 data directly but I can also use .223 data and add 15 to 20 grains to the bullet weight. So I use .223 data for a 55 grain bullet in the 6X47 with 70 grain and 75 grain bullets for powders that I have no data for.

I think you will find it is a better round than the .224 caliber.

My barrel twist is 1 turn in 14 inches so it will not stabilize bullets in the 85 grain range if they are pointed. Make your barrel 1 turn in 12. With the short neck the 100 grain spire points will be way down in the case. I like them with the lighter bullets but neck out some cases and try the heavier bullets in a magazine if you think you must shoot something long and heavy with the dinky little neck.

To my understanding with certain weight bullets your OAL may cause problems. Other than that it is an excellent round. I have one left in an XP. 60-80 grain bullet and H335. That load worked well in two rifles and three pistols.
Sorry no cast as I tend to crowd speed hard with this caliber.

I've got a Robinson M96 that the former owner had a respected barrel shop ream and re rifle the 9 twist barrel to 6MM. It never grouped very well and doing a chamber cast I found he neck to be about .009 over the dia. of a loaded round. Thinking that could be a problem I made a new 12 twist barrel using a reamer from PTG. It cut a neck dia. about .006 over ctg. neck.
It shoots somewhat better but most any AR in .223 will group better. I'm mostly shooting steel and the 80/85 gr hit harder than the 55's so I guess I'm good in the end. Both Nato cases or commercial expand easily without annealing for the 6MM and I've never had any particular issues with neck splits.

The 25-45 Sharps might be a consideration also.

I built a 6x45 AR about 30 years ago. My barrel arrived the day before deer season opened. I put the upper together and took off for deer camp. Once I got settled in, I assembled some ammunition, I just ran new .223 brass into a 6x45 die, no problems. Loaded 80gr Sierra SSPs. Dropped 2 deer with it the first time I took it into the woods.

I have built several 6x45 sand think they are great ,currently shoot a store built (D-TECH ) for bench /target with a 1-12 twist/ 58-80 grain bullet .Have used Nosler Partitons on deer 1-8 twist seems to work fine with proper placement .Accurate 2015 powder is my favorite ,but most of your 223 powders work great . Just a super accurate round with 6mm bullets !
