Gentlemen I have the opportunity to pick up a beautiful ruger blackhawk in 41 mag. The seller is throwing in brass, j bullets, dies, and a holster with he revolver. Anyone here own one how does it shoot? Anything I should know about the 41 mag?

Thanks!

I own one but can't be much help. It was in pretty poor shape when I got it on a trade deal and I have rebuilt the whole thing and it looks and functions nice now but time has kept me from shooting it.

Price usually dictates most things. How good of a deal is it?

I only own one big-bore revolver, and if I could go back and do it all over, it would be a .41.

All the power you'll ever need for deer, or maybe even larger game, and very controllable recoil.

I have always had fun with mine. It likes the Hornady XTP bullets and lee 210's. I had a scope on it for a while and lost the rear sight somewhere. The replacement I got needs to be filed a bit to bring down the groups.

I have one with a 4-5/8" barrel and really like it. I shoot a MP-413-265 - 255g hp and a MP413-640 - 208gr HP with Gas checks. Both shoot as well. Price is the deciding factor for me. I paid $200 for mine a couple of years ago an but I kinda stole it, but that's what the guy wanted for it.

I've had my 41mag BH for about ten years now. The only revolver I shoot more is my GP-100 357. I shoot the Saeco #417 the most but also the Lee TL-410-210. I powder coat these and my go-to fun to shoot load is 7gr. TiteGroup. You'll like the 41. Gp

He wants $400 for the whole package the only thing it has is slight holster wear at the end of the muzzle. Looks like it was carried more than fired as the ring around the cylinder is very faint. I could see the 41 mag being a fun round to shoot and load for. I'm most likely going to go ahead and make the deal before it's gone and I regret it.

There is nothing wrong with the .41 Magnum. If it's a decent price snap it up. With the bullets available especially cast it won't take a back seat to any of them except maybe a heavy slug heavy load .45 Colt. It is a very nice cartridge. My 4 inch Model 57 will turn in 3/4 to 1 inch groups if I do my part (which at 61 yrs. old is few and far between).

Your hardware store has new ones at $450!!??? All the stores I've looked at have Blackhawks for $600-700. Although, I see Bud's is showing them for $500.

I think $400 is a fair price on what he's got. I don't shoot the 41, but know a few that do. I've never heard anyone complain about it, and I've seen its popularity increase over recent years.

I've had one for years and remains one of top picks of the rugers. It shoots 210 lee cast pretty well and before I started casting for myself was shooting sierra 170 JHCs over 24 grains of 296. Great guns, really have enjoyed mine. Come to think of it I gave 200 for mine, that was many years ago.

If it's a New Model,,, it's a good deal for that package. If it's an Old Model,,, it's a steal!
I own about 8 of the Ruger SA 41 mags. Most of mine are the OM's, and are just great guns to enjoy. Capable of mild loading & doing a lot of jobs, yet, when you step it up to a good cast slug running about 1100 fps,,, it's hammer big game with ease, & not beat you up. I know of an elk I saw nailed with one shot at about 75 yds that dropped in it tracks with a 41 maggie & the cast slug combo I mentioned. Plus,, the owner/shooter of that one has seen other big game do the same with them. Here in NC,,, we only have deer & hogs, & bears to go after. I would not feel undergunned against a big black bear with any of my 41 mags.

I had a few BH's, one was in 41, I got it from a member here. Mine was a great shooter. The 41 doesn't have any issues I know about? sounds like a deal.

Hi...

I am a big fan of the .41Mag. I've owned a couple for quite a few years now and they get shot quite regularly.
My BlackHawk gets shot with commercial cast lead 215gr bullets and a moderate load of Unique for a plinking/target/general purpose load and a healthy charge of 2400 under a Hornady HP/XTP 210gr bullet for more serious purposes. I also shoot a lot of the aforementioned cast load out of a S&W 57, I don't shoot very many of the full-power jacketed loads out of that revolver. Just enough to keep in practice and verify POI for when I take it hunting and hiking.

i don't believe I have more than $400-500 invested in both revolvers combined. I have certainly spent more on bullets, primers and powders to shoot through those two revolvers than I ever spent to buy them. Don't have any intention of ever selling either, in fact, I am always looking for a good deal on another BlackHawk in .41Mag.

Yeah I thought I got a good deal on mine needing some work but then I felt like I had gotten taken for a ride when I saw the NIB price. I got 2 boxes of ammo thrown in with mine so I still came out ahead a little.

I passed up a good deal on a used 41 magnum Blackhawk in 1972 , because I thought I wanted a 44 magnum ( Dirty Harry movie made us do stupid things), I've been kicking myself in the behind ever since for not buying that gun.... Don't do what I did !
That model 58 in my avatar proved to me what a great round the 41 magnum can be.

I like the caliber. Have a nice old 3 screw Ruger, and a couple S&Ws. I can't hold the factory wood grips on the S/A Ruger tight enough to prevent gun from rocking back and seriously hurting my hand when shooting full power loads. No problem with modest hand loads. I'd re grip gun, but like its classic look and have the Smiths for serious work.

Great deal I would pick that up in a second. I see most used ones for around 425-500 and thats only the gun.

That's a good deal man. I have a Blackhawk in 45 Colt...but would take as many as i could get in various calibers for $400...good deal indeed.

I've got an OM Blackhawk with 6 in barrel and I love it.. Shoots a variety of cast plain base and jword very very well. I like big bore handguns so 41,44,45. I would be hard pressed. They are all fine cartridges and will do the job. Luckily I dont have to. If I had an opportunity to get a 41 mag I wouldn't hesitate. A very fine gun and cartridge in my opinion. FWIW.

Thanks for the input guys I'm hoping to pick it up this weekend. What powder and bullet mold do you use for the 41 mag? I was looking at the Lee 410-195-SWC to begin with and either 2400 or H110

Packaged deals are great if the price is right.you can't go wrong with A Ruger. 380AUTO, if you decide you want something else I'd like some details on this package please

Sorry to hear that, has happened to me more times than I like to remember. I now have taken the tact that I will buy it and see if I really want it "later"! A 41 Mag 3 screw followed me home recently, exactly that way. I wish you success in your new quest, sometimes the hunt is as much fun as the harvest:)
