Okay, so an SBH Hunter - 7.5" stainless - got stuck to my hand a few months ago. I had to bring it home.

Over the last few weeks I've been attempting to get along with it. I'm just wanting plinking loads for now, to find something this Ruger likes, prior to getting into casting for it. For now, I am using 200gr LRNFP that I purchased from Missouri Bullets, tumble loobed in 45/45/10.
I am just getting back into reloading after some years absence, I think I last reloaded in 1997. I have some Hodgdons Universal left from then, so that is what I'm using.

(As an aside, the 1lb can of Universal has it's price tag still on it....$10.95)

Hodgdons lists from 6.8 to 7.8 with this projectile. I loaded various charges, and went out back to my pistol range and shot it. 25 yards, rested. 5 shot groups.

Oh my.... I can't be this bad. Pack it back up, head to the house. Look closely at the SBH. Is the scope loose ? no...but the grip frame screws are falling out of the bottom of the revolver.....

Snug 'em back up, load up some more, try it again....7.5gr Universal, 200gr LRNFP.
Loaded up 6 this time...called flyer in the top, point of aim marked. Same 25 yds rested.

Went back to 5 shot groups....

So now I have something I can work with. Don't have a chrono yet, but B-day is next month. Heavy hints to SWMBO, including a print-out of the chosen model taped to her dresser....

Considering it's the 2nd time to shoot this weapon, I think I can learn to shoot this thing.

universal is awful close to unique.
I run 8.5grs of unique in most of my 41-45 caliber revolvers.
sometimes I get all worked up to have a bit more oomph and bump the load up to 9,3 grs.
that's with 240's in the 44, 210-220's in the 41, and 250's in the 45.

I just looked at a burn-rate chart. Universal and Unique are listed next to each other. They are remarkably similar. Thanks for the tip.
