I have about a half pound each of Green Dot and Herco that I have had for about 30 years. They are still good, as the scientific "smell" test says, and I would like to use them instead of throw them out.
Now the good part...who has good cast boolit loads for these with those powders?

30-30 with 150 or 170 grain slugs.

40 S&W with 170 grainers.

41 Magnum with 210-215 grain pills.

44 Magnum with 240, 250, 300 grainers.

45 Colt with 250 or 300 grain boolits.

38 Special with 158 grain pipsqueaks.

38-55 with 250 grain boolits.

45/70 with 400 to 425 slugs.

Post 'em and I'll try 'em

Muchas gracias.

Mark, Green Dot and Herco for the 44 rem mag in the 240 lead bullet. I don't/won't guess at the data. Friend of mine likes these two powers for the heavy magnum cals. 240gr or heavier.

I guess I should have been a little more complete in my goal. The revolver loads have a target velocity of 800-1000 fps, except the 38 which would drop to about 700-800 fps. 40 S&W looking for 800-950 fps.

I am preparing to embark on a project of the Lee 12 gauge slug in a shot wad from a rifled barrel [the results of which I will post later] and want to confine myself to Unique and Red Dot for the powders. My upbringing of "Yankee thrift" won't allow me to throw anything out, so use it I must.

Thanks for some info Gabby, and Randy, it's good to see you still around! Thought maybe you were out slaying vermin.

I use 7 to 9g of Green Dot with 200 to 250g boolits in my .44 mags. 7g with a 240-250g boolit will get you right in the velocity range you are looking to achieve. I don't use Green Dot with the 270 to 300 plus grainers because the accuracy just wasn't "there".

Seems to me the GD and Herco would be better choices for slugs than the faster powders. Just my dos centavos, DALE

I use 9 -10 gr of herco for my 45 colt loads at ~950fps

There's plenty of online data for those powders on Alliant's site.
