Old clunker 1878da needs new basepin bushing for headspace.
It is inserted from the cyl. front and is IN there.
any ideas on removal??

How 'bout chucking it in a lathe, and cutting it out with a small boring bar? That's what I did to a Model 29 Smith cylinder.I cut it thin, and then it just popped out real neat.

You could tap the bushing for what ever thread size tap that almost fits in to it, put a deep well socket onto a long bolt of that thread size, and use it as a puller to pull the bushing out.

I've used this to get bronze bushings out of steel hydraulic mechanism pistons that had the bronze bushing chilled before being inserted into the piston.

You may want to use some brass shim stock to avoid marring the end of the cylinder that the deep well socket would sit on.

You may also have to clamp the cylinder in a vise with soft jaws to keep it from rotating while removing the bushing.
