Has anyone ever used 846 in a 270?? If so what charge for a basic 130gr Horn SP would be best?? This may not be the ideal powder for this round, so any and all info will be appreciated.

Thanks
Jeff

I'd suggest using starting loads for the 130gr bullet from Bl-c(2) data for the 30-06. Hodgdon doesn't list a whole lot of bl-c(2) data for the 270, but seems to have 30-06 covered pretty well. With the 270 operating at a higher pressure than the 30-06, it offsets the diameter difference pretty effectively and 130-150gr loads can usually be extrapolated from 30-06 to 270.

Jeffery8mm,

I am not sure of the burning rate of that powder, but is suspect it is a bit slower than H-335. I use WC-844 and my lot is a bit slower than H-335. IF your lot of WC-846 is in the neighborhood of H-335, it probably is too fast for the 270 with anything greater than 100 grain bullets, then it probably still isn't all that great. Good-luck...BCB

Yep, the H335-BLC2 stuff is a little fast for the 270W, so underload it for sure. Use circa 45 grains with the 130. Should do 2750 fps at that loading. ... felix

Thanks guys!!! This 846 may be better suited for the 30 cal stuff. Just wondered about the 270. wiljen, I have often wondered why 30-06 data could not be used to come up with a START load for the 270 since tha case is the same. I may have to buy a slower commercial powder to get the best results for the 270 huh?
