I am now in possession of a large quantity of barbed wire collector sections and am open to any advice on how to research, transport, present, or sell this stuff efficiently.

Research can be tricky but there are probably forums on it. Transport, present,or selling is done very carefully, every time I get near the stuff Ive got little leaks on arms and hands. Stuff is vicious

I'm kind of like country gent, I strung enough of it when I was younger that I really don't see the attraction of having some on the wall to stare at.

With that said, most of the collections I have seen in museums have been behind glass in a shadow box type presentation. Sometimes stapled to a board, sometimes not.

I would suggest that if you are going to ship small sections to do it in a wooden box.

the older stuff is the money stuff.
anything that is different like spur rowels on a wire are worth a bit.
the common stuff is the twisted more modern wire.

your gonna have to warm up the google-foo or look for some forums and do some serious research.
I'd probably try to sell the whole thing to one person rather than piece out the good stuff and mail 2 dollar chunks of wire in a 15 dollar box.

Ship in small hunks of PVC pipe...

I strung more than enough to prevent me from any attachment to it although I did see a wicked barbed wire buffalo in Nebraska or maybe western Kansas when I was stuck for a day at a truckstop and went for a walk.

Mary sounds right on track. A pvc tube would work great

lets talk.

how much do you have and how much do you want, I'm not a die hard collector but I've always liked the displays and it would look cool to have one around here.

There are wooden maps of Texas with assorted wire on them. Picked up one years ago, went to TEXAS to see a couple of friends, did a Dallas gun show and sold it pretty quick. Strung plenty growing up on the farm, strung (rolled) more in RVN. Would like to find some razor wire to put behind our privacy fence in the trees, deter the creeps from trespassing.

I've strung enough of it to be attached to it several times. I've done some digging locally, turns out this stuff is worth a fortune, unless you are trying to sell it.

That's the way with a lot of things, unfortunately.

My dad had a pretty impressive collection, but it never made it to a display board. The whole lot got sold at the estate sale. Didn't want to see it go, but you know how estate settling goes.....

When I was a surveyor, I would see lots of it on old abandoned homesteads. I bought a paperback book which named the different wire and the date it was first manufactured, and it is like the other fellow said - expensive unless you're trying to sell it, then it's worth little.
