Here is my new Cimarron 1885 in 38-55.
Question is to search out the best bullet for its 1 in 18 twist.
I slugged the barrel pushed through from the breech to muzzle .379.
I have a mould for Lyman's .375449 which measures .379 at the bottom band just above the Gas Check but the rest of the grease grove bands measure ,376.
What bullets do you shoot in this same rifle?

I tried to attach a file for my photos but it did not get through. Although it did get through the window for uploading a photo attachment to my posting.I clicked on the button to upload but nothing happen. If you can suggest how I do it, please let me know.

Your pics might be too big . If they are .jpg's you can size them in paint to make smaller or do a search here for a program that will do it , can't remember the name of the program but it works nicely . Some here use Photo Bucket to do pic's with also . GL .

Production Molds which drop large enough to fit a .379 bore
- Lee 379-250-RF
- Saeco 571 (300 gr, pushing the limits of 1:18 twist)
- Saeco 738 (255 gr) (http://www.redding-reloading.com/PDF%20files/tradbullets.pdf)

Boomer Mikey currently has an open 380-230 gr group buy (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=27891)running which should work.

There were 3 older group buys (one by Buckshot and two by Boomer Mikey), all of which dropped .380 or larger if you can find someone willing to part with one.

I also have a Lyman 375449. Mine drops at .377. This works well for me paper patched up to .382 (no gas check, .382 bore)

I have been having good results with 255-270 gr boolits in the 1:18 twist. I have also shot some of the 300 gr Saeco 571 which appear to be stable at 100 yards in limited testing but I have not tried them at longer ranges than that yet.

................That 18" twist will handle about a 310gr slug but not much more. Jon K was shooting the Saeco 300 gr slug in his Uberti 38-55 with excellent results.

Mine (above) is currently in the care of UPS on it's way to the body and fender shop to get a new barrel :-( . The bore was rough as a cob. Tops of the lands liiked like they had been threaded 48 tpi, and there were 4-5 loose/tight spots in the 30" length. Bore-groove slugged .373" x .3794", which was okay. The chamber wold take a case loaded with a .382" slug.

Sorry to say, it wouldn't shoot nuttin'. Jacketed, paper patched, sized .379" or .382", GC or PB, loaded light or loaded heavy. VERY frustrating to say the least. Glad to say that Cimarron was very nice to deal with.

SAECO 571 - 292gr with either Fg or FFg gunpowder. After many sighters with goofy winds, managed to put one on a 1000yd target
