If it casts .443" (per NEI catalog), and standard office paper is ~0.005" thick, then two wraps would be 0.463", correct? How would you use this in a .458" bore?

Thanks,
John

John...You can apply some soft lube by hand the run it thru a LEE push thru sizing die....Most likely the wrapped boolit will be smaller due to skrinkage of the patch when it dries..

Or you could use thinner paper...Something on the order of .004 which would give you .459 wrapped but would shrink down also...

I friend of mine who shots BP has a mold that throws a .443" boolit...He wants his patched boolit to be around .451" ...It is easier to chamber a smaller boolit when shooting black due to fouling so sez he...
So a long way of saying that mold was probably designed for BPCR shooting...

I shoot .458 Winchester and the chamber specs for the bulet throat are not .458 / .459. Unfortunatly, it is .463. I have tried PP my bulets to .463 and they shot well. I will be tweeking the load to see what I can do. With the above mould you would be best shooting in a cartridge that had a smaller chamber bullet throat fit or go to a thicker paper if trying to stay w/ 2 wraps. I have used 3 wraps but am not really satisfied with it yet.

Another poster, '45 2.1' reminded me when I was worried about pressure that the PP bulet takes less force to engrave and that the paper compresses enough so you do not get excessive pressure like if you tried to shoot a jacketed or lead bullet of .463 through a .458 bore. I tested just this week and he was right. What I shot was regular onion skin paper, 100% cotton, 3 wraps from .450 to .463. I am using AA5744 powder for a 1800 fps load. Good accuracy but further experimitation hopefully will improve it.

try looking on the Shiloh Rifles website. The discussions there on PP center around high rag content paper that mikes from .0015" to as much as .0025" thick. The successful shooters are making a patched bullet that mikes from .001" under BORE diameter to perhaps .0005" over, and seating no more than .185" of the bullet in the case. The equivalent of a breech seated CB, or as close as they can get.
