Job... Hands down my favorite. I've learned a lot about dealing with adversity from that book.

Among other things, until I have a day as bad as Job had, I guess I shouldn't complain.

The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away,
Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Anything in the old testament. Most of the new testament refers to the old. Old gives physical meaning, new explains the spiritual side of the same scriptures.

Since we have a New Covenant based on better promises, you will miss a whole lot with a primary focus on the Old Testament.

New International Version (http://biblehub.com/niv/hebrews/8.htm)
But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.

New Living Translation (http://biblehub.com/nlt/hebrews/8.htm)
But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.

English Standard Version (http://biblehub.com/esv/hebrews/8.htm)
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.

Berean Study Bible (http://biblehub.com/bsb/hebrews/8.htm)
Now, however, Jesus has received a far superior ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is superior and is founded on better promises.

Berean Literal Bible (http://biblehub.com/blb/hebrews/8.htm)
But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted upon better promises.

New American Standard Bible (http://biblehub.com/nasb/hebrews/8.htm)
But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.

King James Bible (http://biblehub.com/kjv/hebrews/8.htm)
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Holman Christian Standard Bible (http://biblehub.com/hcsb/hebrews/8.htm)
But Jesus has now obtained a superior ministry, and to that degree He is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been legally enacted on better promises.

International Standard Version (http://biblehub.com/isv/hebrews/8.htm)
However, Jesus has now obtained a more superior ministry, since the covenant he mediates is founded on better promises.

NET Bible (http://biblehub.com/net/hebrews/8.htm)
But now Jesus has obtained a superior ministry, since the covenant that he mediates is also better and is enacted on better promises.

Aramaic Bible in Plain English (http://biblehub.com/aramaic-plain-english/hebrews/8.htm)
Now Yeshua The Messiah has received the Ministry which is better than that, as The Covenant of which he is made The Mediator is better, and it is given with better promises than that.

GOD'S WORDŽ Translation (http://biblehub.com/gwt/hebrews/8.htm)
Jesus has been given a priestly work that is superior to the Levitical priests' work. He also brings a better promise from God that is based on better guarantees.

New American Standard 1977 (http://biblehub.com/nasb77/hebrews/8.htm)
But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.

Jubilee Bible 2000 (http://biblehub.com/jub/hebrews/8.htm)
but now a more excellent ministry is his, in that he is the mediator of a better testament, which was established upon better promises.

King James 2000 Bible (http://biblehub.com/kj2000/hebrews/8.htm)
But now has he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

American King James Version (http://biblehub.com/akjv/hebrews/8.htm)
But now has he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

American Standard Version (http://biblehub.com/asv/hebrews/8.htm)
But now hath he obtained a ministry the more excellent, by so much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which hath been enacted upon better promises.

Douay-Rheims Bible (http://biblehub.com/drb/hebrews/8.htm)
But now he hath obtained a better ministry, by how much also he is a mediator of a better testament, which is established on better promises.

Darby Bible Translation (http://biblehub.com/dbt/hebrews/8.htm)
But now he has got a more excellent ministry, by so much as he is mediator of a better covenant, which is established on the footing of better promises.

English Revised Version (http://biblehub.com/erv/hebrews/8.htm)
But now hath he obtained a ministry the more excellent, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which hath been enacted upon better promises.

Webster's Bible Translation (http://biblehub.com/wbt/hebrews/8.htm)
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Weymouth New Testament (http://biblehub.com/wey/hebrews/8.htm)
But, as a matter of fact, the ministry which Christ has obtained is all the nobler a ministry, in that He is at the same time the negotiator of a sublimer covenant, based upon sublimer promises.

World English Bible (http://biblehub.com/web/hebrews/8.htm)
But now he has obtained a more excellent ministry, by so much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which on better promises has been given as law.

Young's Literal Translation (http://biblehub.com/ylt/hebrews/8.htm)
and now he hath obtained a more excellent service, how much also of a better covenant is he mediator, which on better promises hath been sanctioned,

Oh yeah, that's Hebrews, the whole theme being Jesus is better than ____________________.
Fill in the blank with anything. Who do you think wrote it? Sounds like Paul's teaching but to me a more polished presentation.

I'm thinking Luke wrote Hebrews, based on the historical evidence. God only knows for sure.

I have two. The first is Phillipians...because when I hit a rough patch years ago a preacher friend gave me a bible and told me to read 4:13. Revelations because when God took my dad home, I was holding his hand, praying and Reading Revelations. Sort of a firsts and lasts thing for me. All of it is interesting. The hardest part to read, though, is Numbers. On a side note I never noticed until a few years ago. My badge number is the same as the number of books in the Bible.

It pretty much depends a on what week it is. It's a moving target. Right now it's Mathew. Proverbs and Psalms always a great place to come to rest

Count me among the vascillators. It just depends, but that's a great thing. Our Bible is big and wide enough to cover every situation we find ourselves up against. And that's a big part of the wonder of it all.

I may not be welcome here by this 'crew' after my last comment to Boaz but I am compelled to tell you this…regarding 'favorite books'...
Daniel 9, because it explains Gods timeline for mankind and only this current decline in the 'Church Age' will determine when the 'last week' over runs us.
Revelation, because it delineates the 'last week', gives us the exact events to look for so that we may understand why our world is upside down now and it gives us a refreshed 'new hope' of Jesus returning soon.
Yes…"No man knoweth the day or the hour, only the Father…", but this is not the 'pat statement/retort' for those that try to point out that the 'End Days' are upon us all.
Genesis gives us a clue that God put those lights in the Heavens to tell us the seasons, the sacred times, to know the days and the years…not just for Israel but for all mankind, for all time.
28% of your scripture is prophecy and all but a fraction of that has come to fruition, 100% accuracy, exactly as prophesied yet there is only a small percentage that is yet to be fulfilled…it is that of the times leading to 'Tribulation and the Second Advent'.
The Books of my Bible not only give me a heads up about the 'God breathed' true account of historical events, about how to 'live' through Christ Jesus but it is my guidebook for these days that we are immersed in now…these days of the 'madness in mankind' world wide…the perplexing behavior of 'modern civilized mankind', < oxymoronic words, the influence that the 'prince of the power of the air' has over the world, especially the rise of the same in our lifetimes…just as God is the 'alpha and omega', the Bible is the same…it's Gods play book, his entire plan…beginning to end. Why do we pick parts of it and ignore the rest? Why are the majority of our pulpits silent?
Jesus said that "my people are killed for lack of knowledge'…no truer words ever spoken. Yet…we remain 'blind' to the 'times we are living'.

OS OK, you're VERY welcome here. It's PC to think everyone should (or could!) think alike.
And in fact, PC has snuck into many churches and many hearts. Christians have NEVER been uniformly disposed like PC theory says, at any point along the way. And the Bible is simply too big an instrument for us to understand it all. I've often thought of God, for instance, as some monumentally large diamond, so large that at any given time, we can only see a small portion of it in our field of vision. The rest of it is still there, but we just don't have a broad enough vision to take it all in. Then too, the assumptions we all tend to have inhibit our broader and deeper understanding too. The more we DO come to understand, the more humble we HAVE to get, because the more we realize we've been missing for so long, and the more we realize there must be left for us to at least try to understand further. I suspect that was in God's plan in giving it to us in the first place.

And FWIW, your comments about the approaching revelation are well received here. I SO much want my grandboys to know a life with even HALF the joys and pleasures, and yes, the challenges I've had in my life. If they do, they'll be richly blessed! But that's up to God, who's the real "owner" of the world we inhabit, and if it pleases Him to draw it to a close, I'm humble enough to know that's as it should be. If this was a game, the score would be God- 100, us- 0, so ..... I've come to leave a lot more up to Him, and just try to enjoy whatever He puts before me, and deal with it as best I can. Even pain can be borne FAR beyond what I once thought, but it surely does tire you out. But He helps with that, too.

I don't have a favorite book in the Bible, but the Bible is the Book of Life. I try to read it every day, started at the front around the first of the year and am now reading Esther.

The Golden Text of the Bible is my favorite scripture, with Romans 11:33 a close second.

The BIBLE: Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth.

No favorite for me. I love them all. If you read 3 chapters a day you can read all the way through in just less than a year. 10 chapters a day will let you read it all in about 3 months. I have read it through with the help of God 10 times now and am currently on number 11 and am in the book of 2 Sam. and trying to get thrugh it by June 1. This is besides all the studying for the messages that God gives me to preach. Not tooting my own horn just giving God the glory for helping me to read His word and learn every time I open it. BTW I use the KJV. Raised with it and love it.

For me, I read through John, go right into Acts, and then comes Romans. Beautiful. But it is only a slight preference, as the entire Bible is beautiful.
