For doing what? Shooting game? Hanging steel? Kicking up dust?

They will shoot really far but it all depends on what you want to happen when the bullet arrives at the target.

Then it comes down to your skill. How far away can you place a sure killing shot?

well my 30 carbine revolver has killed a deer before, it had a broken leg and was about 70 yds out.
I generally use it on rock chucks and grouse type stuff, but it was what I had.
I'd imagine the 327 would be in the same category.

I agree, and it also depends on what kind of game we are talking. I would love to have one for small game (rabbit, squirrel, etc) hunting, but wouldn't try to take a moose with one if I had better options.

I would think if using full power .327 loads it would be fine on Coyotes to 150 yds., and would still probably be effective on smaller stuff a bit farther.

Far as you can hit, I guess. Sounds like a fun gun.

I've used mine to about 50 yards for ground hogs. Worked o.k. Don't think I'd press it much past that. That's just me, YMMV

The effective range of the 327 FM in a revolver with full power loads is more a function of the operator's aiming ability than the revolver/cartridge ability. If you can consistently hit the desired target at 150 yds or even 200, the bullet will do its job!

I was thinking full power 327's probably aren't far off from my normal 32-20 rifle loads which run about 1,600 with a 100 gr. boolit. I wouldn't hesitate to take a shot at 150 on a Coyote.

If it wasn't for me having so much gear (brass, molds, etc) for .38/.357, I would be in the market for a .327. Seems like an excellent option for what you're talking about hunting.

I have the gear for brass and molds ect. for 38/357 also. I got the 327 to use like I ask about, but also for the price of 22lr and since I use them for mainly on my trap line .So I would use 32 S&W in the 327 in place of the 22lr when it comes to that in time to come and also if there is any other game I meet up on the line when I do carry it, I would use the 327 also if it comes to that.I know, that I would need to keep the cylinder clean, for if I shot a 32 S&W and then want to use the 327 after.Just like you would do for if you shot a 38spl and then go to a 357. Also it is easyer to reload 32S&W then it is for 22lr.

trapper9260,

I see so much written about how much problem people claim to have with mixing shorter and longer rounds (such as the 32 S&W L and 327 FM of this discussion) and I believe that in most cases the "problem" is overblown. I regularly switch back and forth with my 327 FM BH and my custom built 327 FM S&W K-frame, and I don't have the difficulties that commonly held beliefs would have me expect. Now if you shoot the 32 S&Ws heavily for several years without cleaning and want to switch to 327s, you'll probably have a small problem, but normal cleaning after each range trip (or every three or six trips) and you will be fine. Enjoy the heck out of your 327 FMBH... I know I am!

I understand what you mean Froggie. On the normal thing I do if I just shoot 32 S&W for a time and want to later do 327 I would clean just the cylinder . because of the carbon build up will like you said give problems.but if I shoot a 327 first then I do not worry for when I shoot a shorter one.I am enjoy my also.Since i can shoot 5 different cart. out of it.it is like 5 guns in one.I am glad I got when I did. Thank you for your help also.
