Took my 1956 winchester 94 to the range today and shot one of the best groups i have shot with iron sights. Extremely windy and cool up on the pass today. Set my target out at 100 yards and held the bead at 6 o'clock position, took 3 shots with a cold barrel and came out with this group. 150 gr federal rounds shot just a hair over 1 MOA, measuring 1.125" and horizontally in line, just shot a bit high, for only using the open barrel sights and rested on a sand bag I am extremely happy with this gun, peep sights will surely shrink the groups.

Very nice!-- yes, a well kept levergun is quite accurate-- more accurate than our eyes for sure

Very nice indeed. I'd be happy with that at 50 yds, with my eyes!!

Great shooting! I have to agree with Scooter above as I'd be in the same boat! With the wind, etc. that must have put a big smile on your face! Nothing like a Winnie 94! Thanks for sharing!

Good shooting! I'm often surprised by old leverguns.

Hey there s73 -- As well as being a good shooter, your rifle is already drilled and tapped for a receiver sight. A Lyman 66A would look good on your rifle.

Hope this helps. Best regards. Wind

Good shooting! I'm often surprised by old leverguns.

We couldn't shoot steel targets at the range last Saturday (police restrictions imposed due to the nearby shotgun range being used) so we shot at paper targets. Someone set one up at 50 yards, so I loaded up my (1897 made) 1892 .44-40 with 10 rounds and let fly, off-hand with peep sights, reasonably rapid-fire and not taking too long to aim. I was impressed, all in the black except for a couple of flyers. For me that was very good!

I really love this old gun!
