ok guys need your opinion on what you would do in this case. I bought a sig 1911 in 40sw and I love it. Shoots well, perfect load worked up with magma mold 180 boolits. here is my problem the main spring housing is made with a lanyard style. This section where the lanyard would attach to the gun has a slot. where this slot it hits my palm and digs in. I am going to change this but wondering what is the best way. I am thinking about changing the mainspring housing with one that has the mag well built onto it. a one piece I guess you would call it. I am sure there are several brands out there, which one would you recommend that does not take gunsmithing. I can do some minor fitting but do not have access to a milling machine for major work.

Thanks
Alan

Until I read this thread I did not know sig made a 1911 in 40. Apparently they also do in 38 super as well. Now if only they'd do one in 10mm too. :bigsmyl2:

That one piece mainspring housing that includes the magwell makes finding grips difficult. (at least on my Sig compact RCS Officer's model length grip). The grip panels on mine extend down past the frame and are beveled to abut against the MS housing beveled part. I'm on the road now or I'd include a pic. Rod

I have installed a hogue grip that has the finger groves like a pacmyer for a revolver. This puts my hand in the same spot every time and shooting idpa that makes a difference on the first shot. But I thank you for the comment and hopefully that will not be a concern

Why not just grind off the piece where the lanyard ring attaches?

main reason for me is the gun cost 1,000 dollars and I am not going to hack it up. I can change the mainspring housing for under 100 and still have the original just in case my daughter needs to sell it when I am gone.
