Mechanics neede--limp mode Dodge diesel

Fellow at the club was talking about how his 2014 Dodge diesel went into limp mode when he was in low range , towing his excavator up to a plateau. Said it was running fine then just almost quit. Said it never happened to him in high range.

I was thinking there was a post last year with this happening to someone here and a possible remedy. Searched , but couldn't find anything.

Any ideas?

Does that dodge have the regen exhaust?

I had my gas Hemi go into limp mode once. It was really fun trying to make it to my local repair shop. :(

that RE-Gen stuff is a joke.

I know that in a chev overheating your tranny will put it in limp home. Is it an automatic. If so is that possible.

There's not much you can do but put it on a diagnostic computer and see what fault codes show up. It's sad to say, but the days of a good shadetree mechanic being able to diagnose a problem and fix it is about over. The factories have fixed things where you about have to use the dealership techs and their specialized propriatary shop tools to fix anything.

Being that new, really need to see what the fault was to determine anything. It could be a whole myriad of things.

Don't know what exactly happened, but he said the local dealer didn't want to be bothered putting it on an analyzer. True or not, I can't say, but suspect true

If I had a dealer tell me he didn't want to be bothered, I'd be on the phone to the district office.

That is a bunch of bull! Someone would be getting a little sailor lingo style conversation had I been in those shoes! I cannot effing stand attitudes like that out of a place that deals in CUSTOMER SERVICE! I work in aviation now but I was an automotive tech professionally for 1/2 of my years on this rock and worked on all things automotive my whole life, NO excuse for that ****!

If you were anywhere close by, I'd be happy to stick my Snap-on scanner on his truck and see what happened. Damn thing cost me $5000, I need to justify it's existence!

My Ram 3500 Diesel went into limp mode for a few minutes before the tranny roasted. And at two thousand miles just out of warranty.

As much as I hate to say it, it needs to be hooked up to Cummins INSITE diagnostic software.

I have it here, its the only way he can find out exactly whats going on.

Off the top of my head and what I've run into with the 6.7 cummins-

D.E.F. level low?

Over-heat?

Dosing valve not working?

Did it go into re-gen mode?

If he has any codes thats been pulled, I can run them here at work.
