I recently got a used and abused 1911 that had spent 5+ years with no contact and in a rust prone environment. It was so bad the slide wouldn't move and the only thing that moved was the hammer. The barrel a colt national match grade with bushing was in good condition. The slide a national match aftermarket had seen better days had its Essex frame. To make a long story short my son started doing Duracoat on the side after work and on the weekends. He and his wife worked their magic on this worn torn old 1911 and brought it back to where I no longer have to hide it at the range when someone acquires the bench next to mine to shoot.

Only regret is I wish I had done some deburring on the cheap Essex frame. It shows all the casting marks and lack of quality found on better frames. It will have to do until I either trade it off or sell it. Mean while I'll put a few hundred more rounds thru it. I'll find the before photo of it and post it also.

it's fairly easy to duracoat if you decide to debur it.
Ceracoat might be something you want to look at too, as from my experience, it lasts a bit longer/tougher than the dura versions.

And it looks good to me, nothing to be ashamed of.
But, i've always been of the persuasion that the beauty of any firearm comes from how well it shoots, not in how it looks.

I had considered ceracoat but then again the gun will never see a holster or harsh conditions as long as I own it.
