I am looking to do a project build in chambered in .225 Winchester. My questions are what rifle would you recommend going with? I already have a Model 70 in .225. Looking to do either a single shot or bolt gun. I would like to buy something have it rebarreled etc... Build my own. Any input greatly appreciated!!

I had a pre 64 Model 70 that was rebarreled to 225 Winchester. I sold it when someone offered 3 times what I paid for it. I now have a TC Encore 225 Win barrel to make use of all the ammo and brass I had accumulated over the years. It is a factory chambered barrel and shoots good.

the savage 340 was chambered in .225 & used the same action as the 30-30. and they can still be found for reasonable prices on the used gun market.

and you can even use the same magazine.

apologies for double-post but, I can never get "Edit Post" to work for me.

.225Win -

Howdy !

A low-buck approach might be to " barrel stub " an H & R SB2... one that already has the correct extractor in-place.

You could also put Scheutzen style wood on it, for something a bit different.

A Browning single shot would cost more, but would make for a great final product.

If pressed, you could make .225 Win cases from .30-30 WCF, by giving the rims a turn down to .473" .

In my Load from a Disk database, the wall thickness just in front of the head is given as .040in. for the .225 and .024in. for the .30-30 and its friends and relations. With those cases already in production, and the .219 Zipper ready to be Improved, they didn't go to that extra trouble for nothing. Yes, you can make .225 cases from the others, but I would be wary of loading them to the full potential of the .225.
