Curious but uncertain, I tried a 30:1 alloy bullet in a 8" twist Blackout this morning. Velocity about 800 fps, no issues, shot just fine. Thought I'd pass it along for whatever it might be worth.

Any more details for us like powder, lube or mold number?

DD,

Bolt gun or semi-auto? Plain base or gas checked boolit? Powder?

Thanks!

General info:

Plain base Brooks 183 gr referenced in other posts about the .30 Sneezer.
Alox lube w/ mica/graphite mix
Sized .309
Friend's rifle, not sure of make. SS break action, 16" barrel w/ suppressor. Bore/groove .302"/.3095". Might be a CVA?
3.3 gr Bullseye; W-W SRP.

It it was a preliminary exploration to determine if the twist/alloy were compatible. Apparently they are.

My Handi Rifle in 300 BLK has a 1:7 twist. The CVA Scout has a 1:8 twist. http://www.cva.com/CVA-Store-View.php?id=762

Yep, it was the CVA Scout.

Anyway, I passed along some bullets for the fella to toy with and he will undoubted find out if they still work in the realm of 1,000 fps. Will let you know.

If I couldn't get a boolit to shoot at 800 fps with or without gc I'd hang up my hat... By shoot I mean function, not lead. Whether that's a good accuracy point or not depends on the gun, of course.

Don't be surprised. It's a fairly easy cartridge to load for. Keep at it! I bet you equal or surpass jacketed accruacy without an issue.

Jonk, you tweak my curiosity. So, 8" twist, plain base bullet of 30:1 alloy...how fast do you think it will run before it starts leading or groups open up significantly? Never been down this road, curious how it worked for you?
