Does anyone cast the Lee C324-175-1R 8mm 175gr projectiles? If so Im looking for some dimensions.

The diameter of the top of the bullet and the base where the gas check goes. I'm looking to size them down to 314 and 316 for some military rifles with large bores and just want to get an idea of how much lube groove will be left. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I stole the picture from google images and I think it came from this site so thought it would be the best place to ask.

I get .315 just ahead of the top crimp band, don't have any at the moment unchecked for a GC shank measurement, but, here is a pic of one after I put it through a Lee .314 sizer. I would say you're good to go with a good lube.

To size that bullet down, your looking at the wrong mold. The bullet is .325 from my mold. You would do better getting a 309 and Leementing it. I think to take off .01 from a mold would deform the bullet to much. On the nose mine reads .315

Nice I'm looking at running them through the Lee 314 sizer as well and loading them subsonic without a gas check through a 10in barrelled mosin with .313 bore. Does it take a lot of force to run them through the sizer? What weight do they end up after they have been sized? Thanks.

I've been resizing these bullets for some 7.7 Arisakas and No. 4 Enfields for about a decade. I have no problems in accuracy out to 200 yards with them I resize in 2 stages. I size them to .325 and put a 32 caliber gas check on with my Lyman 45 which also places lube into the grooves and then I take them through a LEE .314 sizer in a Lee Hand Press with no problems on concentric results or putting them through the die and I'm not Lou Ferrigno so it should be an issue with anyone.

Had to google who Lou Ferrigno was haha. Cheers looks like I'll be getting myself one of these molds.

If you lube them at close to cast size first to get lube in the grooves you have support, so less chance of losing groove.

i might try sizing them with no lube seeing if it sheers the grooves clean off and then have a go at powder coating them.

As Bruce said, this has been done for a very long time. I started out doing it with the Lee 8mm Maximum, except I tumble lubed them. I remember reading posts by Buckshot somewhere along about 2006 or 2007 where he did it with that Mould for a fat thirty not long after I thought I had come up with a new super-duper idea,,,,,,,,.

You might want to consider Lee-menting or Beagling the .309 version as alkapitano said, but if you have an 8mm to also shoot it in I wouldn't hesitate if cost is a consideration.

Sorry if this is a thread hijack, but Bruce, didn't you say that was a good bullet in the .32 Winchester Special? Nose is good in tubular magazines?

I also have a .32-40 single shot now, so this might be a good one to try in it.

Sizing them down in stages would be fine. As been said, if you want want the lube grooves to remain, they have to be filled with lube on the first sizing. They won't loose any weight when sizing down, the boolits will get longer instead. How much longer depends on how much you size them down. The lead has to go somewhere.

Its a damn good one for the 32 Win special as well. I leave at .323 after sizing the bullet and it fits the .321 bore very nicely.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I'll go ahead and give this a go. I have a couple of 8mm mausers that I can use the mould for as well so i'm sure it won't go to waste.

mosin with .313 bore.

You might be better off with the LEE Precision C312-155-2R:

Good to know. I'll have to try it, plus my youngest brother is beginning to dable in cast and shoots an 8x57, so we can trade notes.

I've been sizing all mine for the .32 Special and .32-40 to .323 with no problems.

Thank you Bruce and Hamish for sharing your experience with this boolit. And yes everyone I know this is a three year old thread.

I slugged my Arisaka last night at .3165". I found a post by Larry Gibson where he talked about using a Lyman 323470, the same way you have used the Lee Boolit. I have a hard time spending $75.00 on a mold that dosen't even have handles. I started looking at the Lee C324-175-1R. But before I purchased one I wanted to see if this boolit had worked for any one else. I was pretty sure someone on Castboolits had already tried it. I don't really ask questions on this site, but I do a huge amount of data mining here.

I'm going to try this boolit sized to .318". I have a .314" Lee sizer on it's way that I will hone out. I forced the .3165" slug into an unprimed 7.7X58mm case and it chambered just fine, so I think that I can get away sizing to .318".

I had no idea you could size that far down. Let us know how it goes. Thanks bruce you have given me some real possibilities for some other guns i have where i am limited on molds.
