View Full Version : What velocity range for .45 ACP devastators?

Got the mold a few weeks ago and cast up a bunch using some softer lead than recommended, average weight, 200.4gr. I don't want little .45 hand grenades that fragment on impact, rather a nice mushroom of about .80 that gets into the vitals. I had planned on the 950fps range. Too fast for this boolit? Looks like this thing would expand just by throwing it.

With a near pure lead core, not harder than 6-8 BHN, about 1:40 tin/lead, or 1 part wheelweights to four parts plumber's lead, that should work.

With the correct mix you get this.

Agree with Outpost75's post. At .45 ACP pressure/velocity, you are not going to get any "hand grenades". Worst case scenario, you cast them hard with too much Sb and you will get little to no expansion.

P.S. - Are you in Ithaca, NY?

No Don, I just like the guns that were made there.
