Loaded up some of these in the 280. I used a flat nose top punch to give them about a .050 meplat. LLA and no gas check. I used 3 and 3.3 grains of Bullseye over a WLR primer. I got half inch groups at 50 yards and penetrated about 4" of dry phone books. Just the load for populated area ground hogs!!Now I'm hitting about 3" LOW and have no more vertical adjustment. Do I shim the scope or will a set of offset rings give me enough elevation to get on at 50 yards?? The 3.3 load was actually a little bit better in group size. Maybe .060" but more groups would be better to judge.

I wish!! I was using a 18x scope and sandbags under the forearm. These old eyes have NEVER been all that good.

.................Cheapest way is to shim the scope mounts. Either that or buy a scope with stadia lines on the vertical crosshair. I'm not a 'scope guy' so I have no idea where to look for something like that.

Put a beer can shim under the rear scope base or inside the rear rings.

Easiest way to shim a scope is with business cards!
I have never had to go more than two layers. A little oil, and they stay put for a long time.

Shim under base---in the rings will slip and you mar your scope ---scoped gets marred whether slippage or not, poor way to go.

Iron sights?

I meant how about using irons since you're shooting at only 50 yards anyway?

Offset rings are offset front to back, not up and down, and let you position the scope farther back for shorter shooters or forward for larger ones, or to work around the turret position. At least for Ruger rings, the offset is 0.5", IIRC. A set I bought was advertised as offset, but the seller thought that because the front and rear rings are different heights, that's all there was to it.
