I have both of these molds and use them in Ruger blackhawks and Rossi carbines and rifles with less than max, but safe, 296 loads. Do any of you have experience with either on 150-250# hogs or deer in that weight range?
Thanks, GF.

Not directly, but I did shoot a full grown wild hog in the head with a 400 gr. .45 boolit. Came out the foot, then gone. DRT.

I have used the Lee 300 out of a rifle and the RCBS 270 out of a handgun. All shots were very effective and neother the hogs nor deer complained. Have used these on a lot more hogs than deer though, if that makes a difference. Now I didn't see much if any difference on the game I have shot with these, and have gone to using the RCBS bullet purely for the sake of making my lead supply go just a bit longer, and not having to use a GC, which really isn't needed at the velocities I get with these loads. Now just for reference, I shoot these same hogs and deer with a .357, and the hogs with a .22LR, and hunt like I'm bow hunting regardless of weapon being used. So hunt close, then get closer, and then put the bullet exactly where you intended. And don't be afraid to pass up a shot, but you should be able to shoot at just about any angle with either of these .45 bullets.

Both killed by the Miha/MP hollowpoint version of the mould in question, 45 Colt out of a 5 1/2" Uberti Bisley. Running somewhere around 1040 fps. The expanded bullet is out of the buck. I doubt I'll use HP's anymore and they don't penetrate to a level with which I'm comfortable.

Used the Lee 45-300gc years ago on an escaped full grown domestic brood sow. She had gone feral and mean for about 6 months. That boolit launched around 1200 fps from a Ruger 45LC Bisley put her down right there from 25 yards.
Couldn't budge the huge pig. Called my neighbor to help. The two of us couldnt move it. He went home and brought his big tractor (dual rear wheels) that had a 14 foot 3 point boom attachment. That and some chain through the achilles tendons got her moved.
As an indicator of the pig's size, with her nose on the ground, I needed to be standing on the second rung of a step ladder just to begin cutting around the vent to gut the pig. I am 6 feet tall.
The sow had 3 to 4 inches of fat on her, and that showed a bullet diameter wound. Both the holes (in and out) of the ribcage were golfball sized. The lungs were shredded.
The bullet/ load combo performed great. Since then I've taken to using a group buy clone of the RCBS 45-270 and 8 grains of Unique for all my 45 Colt chambered arms. Doesn't require a check, uses less lead, still feeds well in the Rossi '92. Within the limitations of a 625 S&W Mountain gun as well.

I know that the big Lee boolit out of a pistol at 1000fps will penitrate lengthwise thru a coyote and the rear of a dead cow until it hits a front leg bone and winds up about 12" deep in the mud.

I played with the LEE 300 in 44 for a while. Launched it at about 1100 fps. Got curious how well it would penetrate and started shooting it thru water filled milk jugs. Started with five jugs, then went to nine and finally twelve water filled milk jugs. Never was able to stop it. Decided that I didn't need that much penetration on these little whitetails here in oklahoma. Might be handy if godzilla ever shows up. I know we're talking about the 45 cal boolit but they are almost identical.

I read a few years ago that John Linebaugh's daily carry pistol is a S&W 25 4" loaded with a 250 gr SWC at 900 fps. The article also stated that his wife had shot numerous deer and other critters with the same load. Also, the original army standard from 1873 for the 45 Colt the same size slug at similar speed propelled by black powder. The load had to penetrate a horse and it did. Food for thought.
