What is your favorite cast bullet for your favorite rifle? Post at least the basics. Caliber, design, flat base or gas check, alloy and weight. Why is it your favorite? Just curious about what everyone likes in what gun.

Thanks,
Victor

I have several favorites for diffrent rifles that I use almost exclusivly in them. First is My CSharps hepburn in 45-90 that ones bullet is a Old West moulds Shillouette style weighing 550 grns 3 big grease grooves plain base its a 2 cavity brass mould. This bullet shoots very good from this rifles 18 twist barrel and leaves no question if the target has been hit or not on swingers. Next is a modified lyman 535 grn Postell. It has been modified t a nose pour mould and casts a beautiful bullet for my 45-70. This is also a plain based bullet in steel blocks. LAst up is my CPA 40-65 which is currently a Old west brass mould for the Nasa bullt at 400 grns, Plain base 1 large grease groove a nice bore riding nose desighn. Shoots good and has plenty of energy left for 500 yd rams.

I'll bet either of them make the steel "ring".
Thanks for the info.

hmm.
in the 308 the accurate 30-165-A is hands down my favorite at anything over 2-k fps
under that the rcbs 30-165 silh is just as accurate.
in the lever gun 30-30 and the 30-06 the rcbs 30-165 rnfp.
except in my 03A3 it likes the 311041.
in the bolt gun 30-30's it's the 311466 loverign design it goes from whatever to full jacketed speed with equal accuracy the rcbs 150fn will do it too but I never seem to have enough of them and the walt melander cut 4 cavity mold just rains out the 466.
in the AR's either the rcbs 22-055-s or the HM-2 it's kind of a toss-up as far as speed and accuracy goes.
in the 45 colt lever guns the 452664
in the 44 mag lever-guns it has to be the 429667.
in the 357 lever guns it's the lyman equivalent of the other 2 but I forget the number right now.
the 44-40 really likes the magma 200 gr rnfp that I bump-swage up to 430 and may or may not put a hollow-point on it.

in the 7.65 and 7.7 it's the 314299 [with another accurate mold coming along behind it]
the 30-40 krag model 95 likes the rcbs silh boolit]

my 8 mauser and 32 Winchester dote on an old ideal single cavity mold that appears to be a larger version of the rcbs 150 fngc but it doesn't have all of it's numbers left [shrug]

one of the 7 mausers likes the rcbs 145 silh mold best, the other likes the 168gr version, and my Ackley seems to like the other walt melander mold I have that comes in at 150grs.

the 24 cal, 25 and 26 cal's gets jacketed except the 25-20 carbine and rifle they do very well with a 72 gr rapine rnfp plain base mold pushed along fairly hard.

the 358 win likes the saeco #248 from 1900 up to whatever the max jacketed load of rl-19 is.
the 375 Winchesters like different loads but both like the 375449 just fine
the 45-70 gets a lee 2 cavity 435gr gas check mold that's tumble lubed and it does just fine.
I still don't know what the 303's like as I'm working on a home swaged jacketed bullet for them and haven't pegged down a load for them yet.

the 7.5 swiss rifles do pretty darn good with the rcbs 165gr silh boolit, but I also shoot a 165 gr plain based rnfp from magma that does well at 50-60yds.
they also do fairly good with the little 120gr gas checked mold designed for the 30 carbine that lyman makes.
the 300 B.O.'s are like having one rifle that's super easy going and likes everything 30 cal that fits the magazine, but shoots it into 1 to 1-1/2" groups depending on what it is
and another that won't take anything unless the brass is totally fit to it and sizing is strictly adhered to.
but it will stack a whole bag of what it likes into tiny little groups that the rifle doesn't look capable of shooting.
the second one really likes the 165 silh boolit, and the ACE 140gr if I load them in thinner brass, or the LEE 230gr bevel base at sub-sonic speed.
I have more molds and I haven't tried everything in everything yet but this seems to be the best in each so far.

Several favorites;

350 REM MAG is probably my most favorite -- I can shoot rounds from 36 caliber C&P revolver power levels to 338 Win Mag levels and everything in between. I have multiple rifles and each are sighted in for particular loads; light, med, heavy.

2nd

416 Wildcat based on a 300 WSM case necked up with long neck. 315 gr & 400 gr. (41 mag levels to 450-400 Nitro EX levels)

Gee guys. You two really put some HOT lead down range. I just got an NOE mold for 30 cal at 210 spire point shaped bullet. Then I sent it off and had it rigged with hollow point pins. I haven't cast any with it yet. But I hope ie runs close to 190 grains when I get it rolling.

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it.
