I'm using up a forgotten stash of 165gr FMJ and have gotten good results with 4350 but 748 shows up more often in my manuals.
Anybody notice an advantage in their 7.62x51? Mine is a FAL. I don't need to keep any 748 on hand but my LGS has some. If it's noticeably better I might grab a pound or three.
Posting the same question in the Factory Rifles section regarding my M700.

Win. 748 is a ball powder developed for the M-14 and 7.62x51 round. It is very accurate, quicker burning, hence higher velocities with J words, and is cleaner, some of my very best .308 loads are with this powder, great for .243, 7-08, 300 savage and so on. I use 4350 more in my 30-06, etc.

I buy either pretty much anytime I can find them. 748 Seems harder to come by these days. Prob. my two favorite rifle powders....they both have their place, and I like them equally!

748 meters a lot better thats for sure. No experience with it in 308 but its awesome on 223. If you have data for it then try it.

Thanks all. Looks like 748 is the better choice for this one, better yet if it won't choke my measure.

Yep, a way better choice for the 7.62X51 or 308 winchester. Think of it as very similar to 4895 in burn speed. Consider hot primers for good ballistic uniformity with it.

There is a lot of data for 748 in the 308 cartridge out there.

IMR 4350 will work okay in a .308 but, your velocities won't be all that high. Some manuals show about 2500 fps with a 150 gr. bullet and that's with a compressed load. Win. 748 is awesome.

the hotter primers for the 748 is a good tip.
I tried a reduced load in my 303's with it and the spreads were awful until I got it lit up better.
