fellows, I haven't done much salvaging pewter pieces for casting but am trying to educate myself for such. In a recent visit to a thrift shop I was looking at salt and pepper shakers and others things that had the markings EP lead or SP lead. Is this pewter?

I've gotten burned on every piece that isn't marked PEWTER.
I now only buy with the understanding I can return after testing. Acid on an edge or inconspicuous place will tell the truth.

EP= electroplate, SP= silverplate. Not pewter
