I stopped at the Local Walmart Wednesday night, to pick up some sewing stuff for the wife. Swung by the ammo counter, lo and behold, a brick of 22 ammo! Yes, I bought it! Can't wait to go shoot my 22 again.

What type of price did you have to pay and was it 500 rounds or a 325 carton?

What brand was it.
If it wasn't CCI MiniMag 40 grain solids, I would leave it for somebody else.

It was a 500 round Remington Thunder pack, $23.95. It's been a long time since I've seen a brick for less than $50 anywhere.

Until last Saturday, I hadn't seen a single box of .22 rimfire ammo in the local Wal mart in years. Every time the wife and I go in there I look. Well, last Saturday I breezed through there and lo and behold there were about 20 boxes of Federal auto match - $17 + change.

Those used to be $14.77!
Almost back to pre-shortage prices. Now we need quantity!

scary scarney .. . . You HOARDER! LOL :-)

Congrats on your "find"! You are a lucky man! It's been so long since I've seen a brick for sale that I probably wouldn't have recognized it. My 22s have been parked for a long time. In the places where I go, I wouldn't be "choosey" on the brand nor if they were shorts, longs or long rifles as I have rifles/pistols that will shoot both. It would sure be nice if the supply were back to what it used to be and the price back down where it belongs but maybe that's wishful thinking.

It's nice to hear when somebody has some luck finding some though - enjoy and have fun!

What is this "brick" you speak of? At that price anything you could build will be prohibitively expensive and whatever would you do with just one brick? ;-)
LOL, working my way thru some $9.95 bricks and hoping to live long enough to use up all the $19.95 bricks. So glad that "flats" of shotgun shells are still affordable.

I haven't seen any 22 ammo on any shelf locally. I did buy CCI mini mags from natchez shooters supply this week. A bit more expensive than years ago, but they were under 10 cents a piece. Now I can let my son plink at will

It is coming back. I bought 7 bricks of 500 at Walmart recently. Two different visits with wife!

Darn, which Walmart was that?
I haven't seen any at the one by me (Chaparral and Pima)

Hello jaydub, do you have a Fleet Farm up there? All I have down here is Farm and Fleets, but I have been told that Fleet Farms handle reloading supplies? Our Farm and Fleet has had 22LR for the last month or so, but you can only buy 1 box per customer, so my wife and I can each get a box, no bricks, just boxes of 100 for $8 a box.

22 ammo, some kind of new thing maybe? I seem to remember years ago shooting a small 22 cartridge that was primed in the rim, haven't seen such a thing in years, didn't know they even make them anymore!

Sure would like to see some, it would bring back old memories!

I can't recall seeing any .22 longs or shorts on a store shelf in maybe 40 years. Pretty sure they still make .22 shorts, maybe a couple hundred boxes a year, but I have to wonder if .22 longs went the way of the dodo long ago.

As far as .22 long rifle, I rarely shoot any of my stash but I'll buy bricks when I run across them if I can spare the coin. I'm not a true hoarder, just more of a stasher. I plan to always have some on hand until I croak. Sue me.

Wis Tom, yes fleet farm does carry powder and primers. They started in the last year or 2. Did get some hs 6 and tac there. No 22 ammo anytime I have been there

Can't remember the last time I saw .22lr at my local Walmart. I swear people have nothing to do but hound wal-mart for .22lr ammo these days. I walk by the aisle everytime I happen to be there but never see anything. I see plenty of bricks of .22lr ammo from $39.95-$59.95 at local shops, I just am not buying at anywhere near that price. I'm still shooting what I have stocked over the past 10 years but that isn't going to last forever. Frankly this whole .22lr deal is pathetic and why I was never a big fan of rimfire cartridges.

I live in a small town, 50,000 in midwest Kansas and there is rarely any 22 ammo at our local WM. I did run across a few boxes a while back but I have plenty and left them for someone else. It seem if once goes to the big city WM's like Kansas City where there is a WM every 5 miles there is some to be had. There is just too much pressure on the single local stores in a town like this. I could be wrong in all of this but that is what I have been seeing for the past couple of years.

I'm still amazed that this thing has gone on so long.

That's a good price. My local Bass Pro just had some 500 boxes in. They were getting 30 or 35 for the 500 goldens. I passed on the goldens and picked up a couple 325 boxes of Federal Auto Match for 20 each.

Want to know how Anti-gun hawaii is????
In order for walmart to get approval to open. They had to agree NOT to sell any ammo.

Seems like Federal AutoMatch is the new thing. Academy Sports has them for $18.99 for
325, 5.84 cents a round, so equivalent of $29 for a brick, roughly. Best I have seen in a
long time.

This has gone on for so long that once it starts coming back, many will be inclined to over purchase, and prolong it a bit. It will be nice to start seeing more .22's on the shelves and actually get to choose between more than one type.

This just about makes me want to get a couple 5K boxes of the S&B primers that are cheap.

I have to admit, that I still had a few 50 rnd boxes of 22 on hand, when I saw the brick. So by buying the brick, does that make me a hoarder?

For grins I checked out Academy Arms site:

"Before purchasing ammunition online, consider what type of ammunition will work with your existing rifle, shotgun, pistol or other firearm. The caliber of ammunition indicates the internal diameter of each bullet's barrel and is an easy way to determine whether a bullet will fit in your gun. A common caliber is .22 and is often followed by letters, such as .22 L and .22 S, which show that the bullets are designed to work with long-barrel and short-barrel rifles, respectively. By selecting appropriate rifle ammunition and other firearm ammunition, the incidence of jamming is greatly reduced."

All these years I been shooting all kinds of 22 in all kinds of guns, never knowing how wrong I was....
