I have this ~1/2 lb ingot of OKONITE-NA - BHN 14. I'm fairly sure it isn't sodium - does anyone know what it is?

I Googled Okonite and they make cable and wiring so at a very shaky guess it's some kind of wiping solder from the good old days.

I had googled Okonite, and couldn't find anything conclusive. I will guess that it is wiping solder, figure 30-70, and go from there. Thanks, Mike.

remember that tin/lead alloys soften over time.
I'd do a re-melt and then a re-test of the bhn.

The Okonite Cmpany has been a manufacture of Copper and now Aluminum electrical wiring for over 125 years. Before 1960, solder was the primary way to connect copper wiring.
It only make sense that the company also sold solder to join it's copper products together.

Okanite made large quantities of milspec wiring besides commercial stuff for power cables. Years ago this was tin coated copper to conform to milspec. When I retired, it was required to be silver coated. No telling what that is but I'll bet it is good for making bullets./beagle
