Someone asked a question about removing the front sight on a 10-22 barrel. He was told it was machined along with the barrel and couldn't be removed. I measured my barrel ahead of and behind the band and looking at it, I think it was soldered or epoxied on after the barrel was turned. I can't see Ruger machining it as part of the barrel. Has anyone ever removed the band and sight, or is it part of the barrel. Someone on here probably knows what the answer is.

I haven't removed the band, but the site blade comes off just fine.

I do think its machined into the barrel. The sight itself comes out easy enough. They would use CNC machines, so machining that bit on the end would not be that difficult.

I am almost certain that it is machined.

Having trimmed many of these I can tell you for sure the band is integral to the barrel. It will need to be machined off.
