Ran into a problem I knew about but had forgotten due to old age and senility

After dumping the cleaned brass into my rotator case and media separator, pouring the water off and laying the brass out on a towel OF disease hit. (OF = old fart)

As I was spreading out the brass and marveling at how clean it was i noticed two cases stuck together mouth to mouth--this shouldn't happen as 45 Colt and 45 ACP are the same as far as tumbling goes.

Without thinking i pulled them apart and spread SS chips everywhere. Seems some 44-40 cases snuck in and they will fit inside a 45 Colt case mouth. The problem was all the chips ending up far and wide. A couple of passes with my magnet got most of them though I did notice some when I shook out the towel later.

Ran across a few more of the 'mating cases' but learned enough to open them over the drum where the chips are stored between uses.

Not senility, Walter, just an ordinary snafu that just happens - if you tumble enough, that is.

It's happened to me, for sure.....

How do the chips work compared to pins?

And do you have to decap first like you do with pins?

I like chips better as they seem to 'hold together' when I pour was off, not run out as fast as the water. Don't see any differences in the brass.

I decap before using either one. I am seeing a better job cleaning primer pockets with the chips.

In the spirit of full disclosure I am one of those people that like my brass to look good--draws people's attention away from my targets.

FWIW: I use Armor All Wash and Wax which keeps the brass from tarnishing. I have some brass that was cleaned over a year ago and it darkened a bit but still is as shiny as the day I cleaned them

Well, I feel the same way - I prefer that "jewelry" look to my wet tumbled brass. It's my personal preference. Here are some snaps of typical wet tumbling results. I use SS pins, auto wash and wax and Lemi-Shine:

Bayou52 thanks for mentioning Lemi-Shine as I use it too. Just forgot to mention it.
