I am about to start re loading 30 carbine with Lyman 311008 ( 115 gr ) cast from quenched ww metal. Powder will be 296 or 2400.

What kind of velosity should I expect before I burn the bullet bases off ?
What powder charge should I use ?

How about a buffer under the bullet base ? Say cotton balls, or dacron from and old coat, or card wads from heavy paper ? etc..

Does any body have any experience using wax wads ?

Has anybody any experience using the fast burning shot gun powders in the 30 C ? Unique, Herco, Blue dot..

thanks

I've reloaded 1,000's of rds for the carbine. I use the Lee 311-100-2r mold, its 100 gr. and a flat base. Sized to .310. 14 gr IMR 4337 or 12 gr. Acc #9. Lubed with my own concoction. I get no leading and excellent accuracy. Never bothered with the fast burning powders. One thing about using 4227 its just about impossible to dbl. charge--the case won't hold it. Hopes this helpes.

I've just started playing with cast in my carbine.
So far I've found 8.0 of bluedot is working the best.
Bullet is the GB 120gr flat base sized to 310. Larz carnuba red lube.

I've used Acc#9 with jacketed, but want to try with cast.
I'm using 8.0 of bluedot and I noticed you listed 12.0 of Acc#9.
My powder chart shows Bluedot and Acc #9 right next to each other. I know sometimes the charts are not to accurate.
12.0 of Acc#9 seems kind of hot. Seems like it's for jacketed bullets.
Am I wrong???
What kind of groups do you get with the Acc#9 load?????
I'm just starting to play with the carbine load.

12.0 of #9 sounds right. That's about the charge of WC820 that was used in .30 Carbine. My pulldown WC820 gives about the same velocities for charge weights in .44 Magnum as AA #9.

AA #7 is closer to Blue Dot than #9 is. #9's more in the 2400 ballpark.

I THINK you mean IMR 4227

(I use 13 gr 4227 with a 113 gr Lyman 311359 spitzer point bullet)

Right on guys. It also seems I created a new powder (4337) oooooppp's. I might add a jacketed bullet would creat more pressure than a sized lead bullet, with the same charge, so poster should have no problem with either powder listed. Ricohet--I'm also using the pull-down WC820 powder, its worked good for me also. Yodar--with lighter charges I had a little trouble with the cycling of the M-1 carbine probably because of the lighter bullet I am using. Sorry about the (4337) error.

I loaded thousands of these in the 30 carbine over a 25 year period. I mostly used H110, Win 680, AA1680 and 2400 powders. I do not remember the exact loads but do know that they were all targeted at producing around 1700 fps. The carbine fired these well (I personally tried this in at least 14 different ones). Due to the flat point of the bullet you need to play with seating depth to find which will fuction correctly. Even at that they will occationally hang up. I never got leading and mostly used 50-50 alox and bees wax lube.
